tnethotl of feeding Jersey cattle to gain the
best results injbutter production and the
conditions and environments with which
they should be surrounded to guarantee a
profitable return to the breeder who handles
them
An interesting letter full ol cood sugges-
tions and advice from J H Jenkins editor
of the Jersey Bulletin was read to the as-
sociation
Discussion was entered into relative to
the best method of testing butter
and both the acid and churn test
were discussed The association
was heartily in favor of the churn test in
all cases as it was the only test of bringing
out the three cardinal requirements of good
butter viz Taste color and aroma The
sense of the convention was expressed in
the following resolution of J O Terrell
which was unanimously adopted by tho con-
vention
Uesolved that we fully endorse the action
of the Jersey representatives of the Worlds
fair committee in demanding that butter
i shall be made by the churn While not
einning chemical analysis as a cheap
meaVu of ascertaining approximately the
amouiifeof batter fat in milk the fact re-
mains that the churn and the scale furnish
the onlytrue tests and that the chemical
analysis isVonly valuable when it agrees
with the cBurn and utterly worthless when
it fails to uo so
The couvention showed appreciation of
the worjwhich has been done by Maj W
J iVeustcr in promoting the introduction
and breeding of Jersey cattle into Texas by
adopting a resolution to that effect intro-
duced by J O Terrell The resolution was
as follows
Resolved that the long experience and
the remarkable success of Maj W J AVelv
ster in developing the better qualities of
Jersey cows preeminently quality him for
membership on the committee appointed to
represent Jersey breeders at tho Worlds
fair and in our judgment he should be
given personal control and management of
the cows chosen to represent our interests
on that occasion
Just before adjournment the following
was adopted
Resolved that our thanks be extended J
II Jenkins editor of the Jersey Bulletin
for his wise suggestions looking to placing
this organization on a lirm basis

Stock Grower and Fanner The recogni
wez
tion of the Cherokees right to use the strip
for pasturing has caused a rush of Indians J
there to take up ranges on will be
run cattle ostensibly sold to the Indians by
the Americans It wis a splendid grazing
pasture in past years but it is doubtful if
the expense and trouble of leasing and hold-
ing cattle there made it a profitable venture
in the few years preceding the expulsion of
tho white man and his stock But it had
the attraction which always surrounds the
unattainable and all kinds of schemes have
been resorted to to secure a foothold again
and it seems finally with success
