On Tuesday, August whatever, a new faction of road racing began at
Kalibu Gran Prix in Hurst, Texas, where Maverick 5 Regioneers faced
threatening clouds, hot asphalt and hot slicks to carry out the treach-
erous 1981 Malibu Challenge.
Pitted one against the other, these modern-day fly boys and glory gals
bravely fought tight cockpits and small steering wheels for an evening
of entertainment and friendly competition.
As this epic production unfolded; who were the players???
Phil (FTD) Bragg - "Fastest time of day" whose famous lead line was
"scuff the tires for braking" and "is #14 a good car?"
Steve (27:54) Kent - who soberly stated "there hasn't been a car built
yet I can win with!"
Penny "hand over your free passes" Parsons who did an excellent job of
coordination and management in the pits.
Patti "Ms Malibu 1981" Woods kept the scorecards and in contrast to
various bribes from this author, my times were not lessened what-so-ever.
(An honest time-keeper; disgusting!)
With a talented cast of literally dozens, this plot was sure to be a hit.
That's right...some of the top names in modern, state-of-the-art racing
were there...Simpson, Davis, Bell, Istook, Nike, Izod.
As the temperature cooled and the air/fuel density became greater, we
saw some great, great times. Ranging from (FTD) 50:25 to an exciting
novice time of 99:99. The shortest time, although unofficial, was an
,amazing time from Steve Kent of 27:54, when Steve tripped the lights,
;cutting his actual time in half.
The evening was topped off by beer, pizza, and XXXXX- racing movies at
Mr. Gatti's, where good lap times became better, and better lap times
became OUTRAGEOUS'..
...as well they should from the "OUTRAGEOUS" Maverick 5 Malibu-ers'
