A $250,000 federal grant to
Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas
will be used to finance construc-
tion of general nursing care units
now being completed, a hospital
spokesman said Monday.
The grant was announced Sun-
day in Austin as part of $17.1
million in federal grants to Tex-
as for construction of medical
facilities under the federal Hill-
Burton program.
The Texas State Board of
Health approved the grants Sun-
day, according to Associated
Press reports.
The $250,000 grant to Presby-
terian was part of an original
request in 1962 for planning and
construction of the $11 million
hospital which opened here in
May 1966, according to the hos-
pical official.
The hospital now contains 350
beds with six floors •' basically
finished,” he said. Work, how-
ever, is still being done on sev-
eral nursing care units which
are not yet completely finished
or staffed.
At the present time the hos-
pital’s seventh and eighth floors
will remain unfinished.
“The seventh and eighth floors
are shelled in for future con-
siruction and expansion within
five or so years,” the hospital
spokesman said. “The hospital
will eventually have a 500-bed
capacity.

Asked For Pyote
Children’s Home
The Texas Youth Council has
requested an appropriation of
$1.4 million for capital im-
provements at West Texas
Childrens Home at Pyote.
Included in this request is
a proposal for a $137,387 cha-
pel building. If approved, this
would be the state’s first ex-
penditure to build a church build-
ing at any of the council’s
schools.
The council operates eight in-
stitutions across the state, in-
cluding Gatesville School for
Boys and Gainesville School for
Girls.
Other requests for improve-
ments at the Pyote facility
include:
$281,682 for construction of
an administration • infirmary •
cafeteria complex at the school.
$174,000 for construction of
a laundry at the site. Laundry
service for the school has been
contracted out to date.
$354,593 for improvements of
streets at the school.
$430,879 for construction of
a student activities building.
Council executive director Dr.
James A. Turman said all cap-
ital improvements requests but
one had been made to the past
legislature and were denied. The
proposed laundry construction
is the only request being taken
to the legislature for the first
time. •
The West Texas School, lo-
cated at the old Pyote Air Force
Base, has a 116-bed capacity and
averaged 67 students in 1967.
