University of Virginia and the Department of Agriculture
Graduate School where she helped establish the English
Certificate program for international students.
For six years Miss Harllee was director of the
radio and TV department of the Washington Council of
Churches.
She also conducted the International Heritage Tours
overseas for 10 years, began and led several audio-visual
workshops for teachers in Belize under the Partners of the
Alliance Program for the State Department and was director
of the Inter-American Folk Festival in Washington. She was
Secretary of the International Christian Committee for the
Brussels World's Fair which raised the funds to build the
Protestant Pavillion. This is now The International
Fellowship Center in Brussels.
Miss Harllee wrote two books, "American Pronuncia-
tion Practice" and "The Story of Richard Bucke-Chaplain of
the First Legislative Assembly in the New World."
Miss Harllee received citations for radio and TV
programs and for films from the American Association of
University Women, Partners for the Alliance, the D.C.
Federation of Women's Clubs, the D.C. Business and
Professional Women's Clubs, the American College Public
Relations Association, and the World Council of Churches.
She is survived by a brother, Admiral John Harllee
of Front Royal, Va.; a nephew, John Harllee of McLean, Va.;
a grand-niece, Kathryn Elizabeth Harllee, and a grand-
nephew, John William Harllee.
Dr. Thomas A. Stone will conduct the service for
Ella Harllee at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the
Presidents, National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska
Ave., N.W. Participating in the service will be Dr. Charles
Talley, Dr. Louis H. Evans, Dr. James H. Boren, and Dr.
Samuel L. Gandy. Interment will be at Arlington National
Cemetery.
