A Few Words About Bonham.
Eds. Enterprisk :
1 have a few words to say, first
for or in favor of Bonham; and
in tho second second place, against
Bonlmni. I could say- a great maDy
things in favor of Our town, knd tell
nothing but what is strictly true, but
for tho present will mention only
these few things: It is admitted by
nil that Bonham can not be excelled
in point of health By any town Of
Northern Texas It possesses plen-
ty of “ wood and water”—tho two
indispensablo requisites of comfort
and prosperity. It has a peoplo
noted for morality and general in-
telligence. Its business men arc
worthy and reliable. Tho ladies are
kind, intelligent and—exceedingly
good-looking. Last, and leant, tho
children are modcls-of all the good
qualities—especially in the eyes of
their mammas. Thus much for
Bonham. Against it, I would say,
wo have too many saloons and gro-
ceries—too many men who are mak-
ing their living by injuring, by
ruining thoir f'oliow-nien. May we
not hope, from the rapid progress of
the Temperanco couso in our place,
that these crying evils will soon bo
removed? What a happy tifne will
that bo! I will also say that pfcrty
spirit-partyism —is a great liinii-
iunce to tho advancement and hap-
piness of our town. It pan-ados all
classes, more or lees, and affects all
interests. Will not tho good people
of Bonham unite to put it down,
and let us have-in its stead kindnoss,
forbearance, and real sociability?
Surely they will, How much-better
wo would feol - and feel bettor be-
cause wo would bo better. And
strangers coining among us would
be delighted with our town, and
would readily muke it their homo.
Who will lead off in this matter?
A True Friend.

sorry you did not send mo tho pn-

not.
I arrived safely in this city in
just two days anil two nights uftpr
leaving home. Thtlt does pretty
well, but we can do still better when
the Trans-continentkl is completed.
In passing through some parts of
this State, I am made to wondifr,
when partios tell mo they give front
twenty to fifty dollars per acre for
very poo^, rocky ltlnd, where tho
hills Sodm almost too stoop to walk
ovor, let alone to plow and harrow.
I say t wonder at this, whon I re-
member tho broad, rich prairies, un-
cultivated and uiioccupiod- in our
county. I expressed this wonder to
some, and thOy told me they would
liko better land, and u better coun-
try—but oh 1 those northers. From
,what they could learn a mau would
nearly freeze in mid-summer whon
they began to blow, befoftS lid cOuld

The country bore has generally
short crops, this year, little or no
fruit, and they complain wonder-
fully of hard times. I toll them
that we have learned one thing
that they do not know, and n
can learn ; that is, if we have
ftiofKty; we dan live without it.

Mr. Dossoy was at froiii’s rapche
whon a party of thirty Indians at-
tacked that place and succeeded in
driving off thirty head of horsep.
No one was killed at that point.
Tho Indians are supposed to have
been Comanehes, from the buffalo
robes and moccasins made of buffalo
hide, that were found on tho trail.
At somo point in tho lower coun-
try. they c-aino upon two Mexicans,
and ono of them ran to a well
thirty feet deep, with ubout twenty
feet of water in it, and jnttiped in
to save himself. Tho lndiiiris caught
tho other Mexican, stripped his
shirt over his hoad, and throw him
in tho well. At another rancho
they visited, thirteen tiiert wore

ber seven wero killed and hung to
