Brother Witt Gives
Chapel Talk Saturday
"The Spirit of Song" was the subject
of a very timely address given in chapel
Saturday July 14 by Brother Paul Witt.
"To sing the words of a song without
meaning them is not right at all" Brother
Witt asserted. He suggested that individ-
uals' should sing with the. "spirit and the
understanding" and make melody in their
hearts unto the Lord. The point was em-
phasized that although Christians are
commanded to "teach and admonish one
another in spiritual songs" they should .al-
so sing for themselves and the good they
may get out f singing. In this connec-
tion attention was called to the fact that
birds sing not to' please someone else but
tor ineir own enjoyment. y.
Professor1 Witt urged the students to
tako part in the chapel exercises by enter-
ing heartily into the song service. Read
ing and talking during the song service
were vigorously attacked by the speaker

Elden Busby's Wedding
Proves To Be Big Me
Social comment among the younger set
of Abilene Christian College reached
new high mark Sunday night when the an
nouncement was made by Lloyd Nelson
that Elden Busby former student here Was
married in Fort Worth on Saturday night
July 14. ' " . "
The announcement was made upon the
receipt' of he following telegram!
Lloyd Nelson
Care Abilene Christian College
Abilene Texas.
Were married last night. Leaving this
morning for California. Best regards. El-
den and Ruby.
The news spread like wildfire and with-
in a few minutes almost every student on
the campus knew .of it. Congratulations
and condolences -were being- articulated on
every hand. Some seemed to think that it
was a leap Into the dark while others
added the 'name of Elden Busby to that
long list of men who are not born meek
but who get married.
The news was a great shock to the Edi-
tor. He was just cominj out from under
financial strain that had caused him to
lose ten pounds of perfectly good avoirdu-
pois. "And to think" he said sadly "that
I have to go and buy that red-headed Bus
a wedding- present."
Then came the md rush for Elden's
room. Lloyd Nelson who was to be hfa
room-mate next year ya swamped with
applications for the place. Some students
even mado formal application at the Bur
sars office for the room.
The Prickly Pear Staff members were
also mourning the loss of a good cartoon-
ist. They said that the only pictures Bus-
by would draw from this time henceforth
Would be drawn when his wife bombards
him with a barrage of after-marriage re-
marks so that he can not get In a word
edgeways.
Lawrence Smith was terribly worried
about Elden too. He did not see how the
ncwly-wd wotlld be able to make a liv-
ing. At first Smith was reluctant about
believing the announcemem but he finally
concluded that it. must be true.
Upon investigatlcn however an Opti-
mist reporter learned thatthe wedding was
a Bug House fable. It was just another
one of those little mischievous tricks thai.
a restless college boy cKd to create some
excitement and give the stiidents a thrill.
Elden Busby is NOT married. He is at
his home in Fort Worth working eight
hours a day for W. C Stripling and Com-
pany. At night he gets in his car and
drives over to see Ruby. He drives dream-
ily along the street chewing gum and
thinking he Is IT. Then he and Ruby go
to the movies and return to sit on the lawn
and enjoy the ozone of a moonlight eve
ning.
For the information of students and
readers the Optimist is. glad to report that
Elden is still enjoying the peace and quiet
of bachelorhood and will return to Abi-
lene Christian College this fall un-attached.
