The "cripples" of Ooach Morris
showed tho fans of Abilene what they
were mado of in tho game with tho
Bobcats last Saturday night. They
wero backed up against their goal
lino several times but did not glvo
way until thoy wero battered to a
mass of blood and sore muscles.
You have read about those kind of
runs where a player takes the ball
and starts ono wny and then reverse
the field nnd goes the other but wo
imuglno that It was the first timo
a lot of fans have ever seen it ac
complished. The way Sanders did it
anyway so in our estimation ana
wo believe everyone will agree with
us that was the prettiest run seeh
here this seascn.
"Sub" Pyland the Bobcats fullback
plays football without any shoulder
pads or blocking pads some people
sure are crazy and his is no exception
to the rule.

Mid-Terms Are Next Week
The state requirement for physical
education in high schools has caused
tho creation of a new department in
tho academy this year. The physical
training for boys is under tho super-
vision of Homer Hailey academy
principal. Dalton Hill also conducts
basketball classes for the academy
boys. Tho basketball training is very
intensive because tho boys arc pre
paring for tho inter-class contests
which are to be held in November.
The department for girls consists
of a class in tennis under the super-
vision of Miss Graco Arlcdgc teach-
er of Latin and English and a class
in general physical education under
Miss Patterson teacher of mathemat
ics and science who is a former stu-
dent of the University of Texas.
While at tho University of Texas sho
was a pupil of Miss Olga Anderson
and Miss Anna Hiss of tho state de-
partment of physical education. Sho
I comes horo directly from Shreveport
La where sho has been associated
with tho city recreation and health
education department.
Without the fleet feet of Keyes the
Wildcats found their running attacks
of little value Saturday night but a
good defense play and the numerous
bootssof Britton Pippen a bnckfield
man for a night held tho Southwest-
ers down until the Davis to Pippen
passing combination flashed into ac-
tion for the first touchdown of the
game in the final round. Then the
thrills came in a hurry.
The North Texas State Teachers'
college football team is coming to
Abilene this week. This tenm finish-
ed up thn latter part of last week by
downing the Trinity university Tigers
by the score of 0 to 0. It is true this
score is not big but reports have it
that the Eagles have a good team
and will glvo tho Wildcats -plenty of
trouble.
Tho turnout for the game was not
very largo last Saturday night but
wo can't let a little cool weather stop
us from coming out to tho gnmes be-
cause those Wildcats have got to win
and they can't win nearly so easy if
we don't turn out and support them.
So at this gamo with the North Tex-
as Eagles let us all turn out and
bring along a friend.
0 Among mo interesting develop-
ments of last wock's T. I A. A. raco
was tho lead gained by Canyon
Tcnchers by their 14 to 0 win over
East Texas. This makes the second
win for Canyon they having prev-
iously beaten the A. C. C. Wildcats
10 to 7 and establishes them as fav-
orites to win the championship.
Two prc-scason favorites Denton
nnd Snm Houston will meet their
(.first conference opponents this week.
A hard scrap is in storo for the Den-
ton Eagles when thoy meet tho re-
cuperating Wildcats who last week
tied San Marcos with most of tho
first string men on the sideline. Sam
Houston anticipates nn easier fray
with tho East Texas Lions. Although
Denton has not looked so impressive
so far their team is just rounding
into shape as was proved by their 0
to G win over Trinity University last
week. Coach Sisco's' lino is mado up
almost altogether of new men who
arc just now finding themselves. Sam
Houston led by the speed demon
Doyle Coc have already proven their
mettle by wins over minor conference
clubs and by holding Rice to a 14 to
13 count.
Canyon will have another confer-
ence game the only ono off their
home field with Daniel Baker. Since
they have not scored n touchdown in
their first four starts Daniel Baker
apparently has Jittlc to show against
the Canyon team.
The other conference tilt of tho
week is between McMurry and tho
Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. Dopo
favors tho Indians to win by n good
score. Tho Lumberjacks have never
scored a point against tho Indians
although they held them to a 0 to 0
tie in 192G tho year of McMurry's
chnmpionship.

The San Marcos Bobcats wero tho
uncrowned champs of the T. I. A. A.
in 1929 but they got quite a reverse
Saturday "night because one of the
players made the remark that the
Bobcats came to Abllcno expecting
something easy and got the worst
licking of their lives.
Someone made tho statement thnt
the Wildcats would have won tho
gamo last Saturday night if they had
played football. That is not exactly
truo for tho Morrismen gave all they
had from start to finish and that is
all one can ask of any team. As
long as those eleven players aro giv-
ing their best we do not have any
kjck coming. Tho kind of a person
who makes that remark is usually
tho ono who gambles on tho gamo and
loses. It is those kind of people who
nearly always kick at a team when
it fails to win.
The McMurry Indians with nil of
their players back in shape for tho
first timo since tho Hownfd Payno
game defeated Sul Ross 14 to 0 on a
neutral field at Colorado last Satur
day. The two touchdowns were tho
first points mado by tho Indians this
season.. Pool's 80 yard return of n
punt for a touchdown was the high
light of the gamo.
The Abilene high school Eagles will
get to put their wings to their first
strenuous test this week at Ranger
when they tangle with tho Bulldogs
on LUlard field.
The Cisco Loboes aro at. tho head
of the Oil Belt in scoring again this
year with 205 points to 7 for their
opponents. The Loboes have aver
aged 44 points a gam?. The Breck-
enridgo Buckaroos are next in line
with 100 points an average of about
35 points a game.
