Tech Stars
?ho Wildcat baskotball team hit
Jyoad again thU morning for the
ia of tho Texan Tech Bull-fight-f.
whore thoy open a two -game
scries with tho Red and Black war-
riors tonight in an attempt to break
a losing streak that has clung to them
since tho McMurry gamo two weeks
ago.
Tho Morrismen are rated as under-
dogs in tho bout tonight and Friday
evening in tho Matador's homo gym
as a result of tho Techmen's victory
over tho Wildcats in Bennett gym-
nasium last week. However tho Cats
are by no means hopolcssly outclassed
in tho coming games for they pushed
tho Toreadors throughout tho last
game but dropped it 34 to 25 when
the Hodges-Fisher scoring machine
swung into action again in the closing
moments of tho game.
Hodges Fisher and Tndlock aro
tho .veteran mainstays of tho Tech
crew. Hodges was the star of tho
game here running up fourteen points
for high point man playing a superb
defensive gamo as well. Fisher trailed
him with ten points.
Captain Pippcn and his team mates
have found tho going rnther rough
lately. Thoy were duo for a win or so
out at Alplno but seemed to be badly
off both nights. With any luck at
all they should hit their stride again
and como out with a victory or so
over tho Plainsmen. Watklns sue
cccdcd in getting tho jump consist-
ently here against Tech and should
repeat there. Walkins also found tho
basket enough to be high point man
at Sul Ross ono night. Lawrence
who has been high scorer on several
occasions Powell and Reese aro other
probable Wildcat starters. Day an-
other high scorer at Sul Ross Rey-
' nolds Wortham and L. Hill will also
likely see a part of tho two games
in Wildcat uniforms.

placo of Reese. Worth Watkins is
due to look after tho middle assign-
ment of tho line-up for tho Chris-
tians. The subs that will likely seo a

Cats Have Won One Home Game
In the games that.have been played
between the two teams the Buffaloes
hold tho edge in victories by a good
margin. Tho last victory that the
Cats hold over tho Herd was won in
tho days of Theo Powell Dalton Hill
Brown and Adams. There have been
Borne very close and exciting games
played between the Cats and tho Buf-
faloes but tho purple and whito havo
not had the punch to put tho winning
touch to tho tussles.
Tho Sul Ross Loboes are leading
the. western division of the T. I. A. A.
at tho present but they have not met
tho Buffaloes at this writing. After
tho Bisons have completed their visit
in Ablleno they will take on the Lo-
hoc and It is expected that the Herd
will take the lead In this division and
keep it through tho remainder of tho
year.
JACK BURFORD GIVES
- HISTORY OF VIOLINS
by Van Jones
The Sul Robs Loboes were consid-
ered to bo lucky to win two games
from tho McMurry College Indiana
and the Cats were figured to win at
least one of thoir games from tho
Loboes but instead of tho Wildcats
winning one they lost two to the Sul
Ross team. Tho two wins over tho
Cats put tho Loboes far in the lead
in tho Western division of the T. I.
A. A. With four games to the winning
sido of tho column and no defeats to
the other sido of the column.
When a team picks up a losing
streak they Just can't Becm to lose it
at least that is the way with tho
Cats. During the football season the
Morrismen went on a losing streak
duo 'to injuries and they haven't
come out of it yet. The two games
that they lost to tho Loboes made the
reverses run to six straight for them.
The Widcats will have a change of
heart some of these days and when
they do there will be some one wish
ing that they had not changed be-
cause when they do change they will
hop up and kick somo team right in
the face when that club needs the
win to cinch the title.
The Cats do not havo any more
games in Abilene until February 2
and 3 when thoy tangle with tho
Canyon Buffaloes ono of the strong-
est teams in the state of Texas. The
Burtonltcs from tho plains have a
great team every year but this year's
team is classed as one of the best
that has been turned out by Sad Sam
Burton. Tho fnns will have a chanco
to Bee what most people call a basket-
ball team when tho Buffaloes come to
town.

Wonder where we will put tho ne.v
track trophies after the '31 season Is
over.
Speaking of old students wanting to
be back "Blondy" Vaughn has writ-
ten a letter to one of our track man
expressing just how much ho desires
to be hero and help win another
championship for J. Eddio and A.C.C.
Whether you aro aware of the fact or
not "Blondy" is some trackster. He
holds two T. I. A. A. records the mile
and tho threo mile he has raced the
one-half mile in tho fast time of one
ml nut a and 55.5 seconds. He could
run tho 440 in CO seconds any day he
so desired. "Blondy" was one of the
strongest points on A. C. C. 's great
relay team last year. Wo aro missing
him now. Ho pointed out in hi3 letter
that A. C. C. was extremely fortunate
In having ono of tho best track

violins is exceptionally beautiful.

Track Coach J. Eddie Weems is
still drilling the boys hard every aft-
ernoon in preparation for the coming
track season which is the hardest
that a team from A. C. C. has ever
attempted. Tho thin dads of Weems
havo won the T. I. A. A. three times
in a row and are out to win their
fourth title if it is at all possible and
it should be as we have the best track
coach in Texas and a lot of good ma-
terial to put on the cinders this sea
son.
Texas Tech has called a meeting of
officials of West Texas schools to see
if thoy can't put the new conference
through that they started a year ago.
Tho meeting will be as big a failure
as it was a year ago if a few of the
ones asked to be there fall to show
up. Last year there were only about
half of the schools present that re-
ceived an invitation. The way that
the thing looks at tho present the
Matadors will have to spend another
year as an outlaw school unless the
Texas Conference decides to let them
in at this year's meoting.
Coach Weems and the Wildcat
track team recently received a for
roal invitation to the Fort Worth Fat
Stock Show Meet scheduled for March
14... Incidently the Track Cats hold
nine of tho records in the college di-
vision at the Fat Stock show.
Why the schools of the Texas Con-
ference and T. I. A. A. don't want
the Bullfighters in their leagues Is
a mystery to this paper. Thoy always
give tho reason for not wanting the
Lubbock school is because of the dis-
tance out there and tho small homo
crowds. Tho Tech officials tried to
offset that by offering tho school a
majority of the games at Lubbock and
a fat guaranteo but they declined to
givo in.

O'LHAUSEN HEADS A.C.C.
TO WIN OVER N. PARK
With the Wildcats as they treked

Off in the college bus at 0:30 a. m.

decided to stop at Sweetwater delay
proved to last ono hour lunched in
Big Spring (plenty water) then came
wild desert country where the lobo
howls stronger where trees have fall-
en in decay it's wild left the Bank-
head highway at Monahans and start-
ed south into the Texn3 desert toward
Fort Stockton had dinner then re-
sumed journey arrived Alpine near
nino o'clock disgusted to find hotel
over crowded finnlly got beds in
ranch homes near tho main street
finally to bed for a night's rest which
enn best be comfortably enjoyed after
short ride of four hundred miles in
the ole' bus.
Friday:
Breakfasted early just froliced the
morning away here there and every
where the usual visit to the Sul Ross
Teachers College Alpine lies in a
huge basin entirely surrounded by
high mountains if ono has never seen
a sun rise or set in the Davis moun-
tains ho has missed much lunch-
ed a little after 12 had a fair meal

game it was a good game in tho last
half with Watkins carrying the brunt
of our scoring wo made comeback but
it was not sufficient to overcome the
Lobo lead. There was no Alibi we
wero just out scored but not beat.

Tallies For Cats And M.
Connally Leads Sul Ross
In 31-27 28-18 Wins
The Wildcat leap failed to gain a
death hold on the backs of tho Sul
Rosb Loboes Friday and Saturday
nights. The Loboes copped the first
gamo 31-27; and the second 18-28.
Tho Loboes wero led In their at-
tacks by M. Connally and Shaddlx
whovdid tho greater part of tho scor-
ing and defenso work. M. Connally
tied for high point man both nights;
with Watkins on Friday and with
Day on Saturday.
Tho first gamo started good and
tho Wildcats led 5-1 before Sul Ross
got her feet settled. Then M. Con-
nolly broke loose gaining for tho
Loboes tho lead. The attack contin-
ued through the first half and when
tho gun fired tho Loboes were far
in front with a 14-7 lend.
As tho second half started the
Wildcats had blood in their eyes and
came back strong scoring 20 points.
Even this was not enough to stop
the Sul Ross five for In tho mean-
time they scored 17 points to hold
their lead.
Tho man-to-man defense of tho
Wildcats didn't click in this game
and the Alpine delayed offense
caused tho defeat. But if the" Wild-
cats had scored half of tho free shots
they missed tho talo would havojiad
a different ending.

Loboes Off to Big Lead
Tho game Saturday night gave tho
Morrismen harder sledding and the
score was not so favorable as the one
the night before. The Wildcats were
never in tho lead but they wero nt
all times on tho court fighting for
nil they wero worth.
The score does not Indicate tho
fight the Morrismen put up. The
Loboes though they came out vic-
torious will not soon forget their tus
sle with the Wildcnts. The game
ended 18-28 in favor of the Loboes.
Rosette and M. Connally led the at-
tack of the Loboes but they were so
closely guarded that they made only
short or crip Shots. Tho man-to-man
defenso was certainly "on" in tho
gamo Saturday and It dealt misery
to tho Morrismen vJhilo at tho same
timo tho Wildcats were having dif
ficulty in getting their own man-toman
defenso to working. Watkins
consistently got the tip-off what
timo he was in the game but this
advantage was not enough to whip
the Loboes.
Tho Loboes led 14-8 nt tho half and
the Wildcats were never quite able to
ovcrcomo that lead. Day and M.
Connally tied for high scoring hon-
ors with 7 points each. Pippcn play-
