the boys' and girls' halls went either
to their homo towns or to that of some
friends for tho short vacation between

Miss Awtrey Saturday
Corinne Young entertained Satur-
day evening with a surprise farewell
affair for Lcnna Awtrey who is go-
ing to her homo in Roanoke Texas
for tho remainder of tho school year.
Miss Awtrey was taken to tho pic-
ture show by her hostess lato in tho
afternoon nnd when they returned to
tho homes tho guests wero awaiting
them at tho door with a shower of
confetti. Cako and punch wero served.
Tho guest list included chiefly Miss
Awtrey's Lucky Thirteen sisters and
her close personal friends from the
college and in town.

Society on tho hill for tho past
week has ben moro or less on tho
wane so to speak. With final ex-
aminations occupying tho principal
place In tho students' minds par-
tics dinners and what havo you
havo been forced to tako tho back-
ground. With tho coming of these
examinations most students as
sumo a worried look and bclievo it
or not most ofthem did some real
studying last week and now that
the tension has lightened somewhat
wo hopo to havo a society column
that is brimming over with interest

Mrs. G. C. Morlan was hostess to
tho Wednesday Club on last Wednes-
day nt her homo on Cedar Crest Drive.
As ono of tho special programs in
the study courso on "Women In Tho
Making of America" members of the
club featured education as tho topic at
their meeting.

Sail Monday Evening
Setting sail from Port Optimist
tho crew of the good ship Tuscarora
halted their vessel near tho Reese
Bottoms Monday night when thoy
could no longer withstand the pangs
of hunger and fell upon the provisions
which consisted of barbecue tamales
buns pickles and fruit.
Features of tho evening were: tho
photographing of tho sailors for tho
Prickly Pear tho drenching of Sailor
Chambers nnd the "cutting-up" of
Sailors Gentry nnd Cecil which made
it impossible to carry on some urgent
business beforo tho crew.

Sermon Sunday Morning
Continuing his series of sermons on
Tho Sermon on tho Mount E. W. Mc-
Millan discussed a part of tho beati-
tudes in Sewcll auditorium Sunday
morning.
"Jesus made it indispensible to the
Christian to givo heed to the things
found in tho New Testament when ho
said 'He that heareth theso sayings of
mine nnd doctji them shall bo likened
to n wiso man but ho that heareth
them and doeth them not shall bo lik-
ened unto a foolish man'" said the
speaker.
Last Sunday morning Evangelist
McMillan discussed tho first two bea-
titudes and this Sunday discusseed
the next four.

questions of vital importance to Chris-
tians in his sermon Sunday night.
Theso questions were: Where did
tho Catholic church como from?
Where did denominationalism como
from 7 How aro wo going to deter-
mine when a church Is a church of
I God? and How nro wo going to tell
when n person is a child of God?
In answering theso questions tho
speaker said that when trio chairmen
of the local churches selected a head
chairman to settlo their disputes after
tho death of tho apostles this chair-
man of chairmen at last caifto to bo
high authority and declared himself
popo to formulate tho Catholic
church that men who were bishops
and priests revolted against tho pope
wero disfellowshlppcd and set up
churches of their own to form de-
nominations that n church of God
colls no man father preaches Now
Testament doctrine has as conditions
of entrance fafth repentance con-
fession and baptism nnd is right in
singing prayer giving Lord's sup-
per nnd in teaching and that a child
of God is n child of God only when ho
has obeyed tho teachings of tho New
Testament nnd not otherwise.

Loid will receive his M. D. degree
