tured the public's attention by
displaying the world's largest
ashtray. Statler said the ashtray's
diameter was six feet with five and
one-half foot long cigarette exten-
ding outward. The eiTcct of smoke
was created with the use of dry Ice.
The Great American Smokeout
includes all forms of tobacco.
Research by the American Cancer
Society shows that cigarette smok-
ing is the major cause of cancer in
parts of the body other than the
lungs including the mouth larynx
esophagus bladder and pancreas.
Smokeless tobacco also is being
included in the Smoke Out.
American Cancer Society research
polls showed that the production
and sales of smokeless tobacco are
increasing at a rate of about 1 1 per-
cent each year.
Wednesday the American Spit

.must be won before a team competes
in the final round of competition.
Moody thought the reason some of
the ACU debators' scores dropped jR
the octofinal round was because of tiiSk
limited number of judges in each
round. Three judges usually decide on
a round winner but since not enough
debate teams entered the tournament
a limited number of judges were hired
to officiate.
"Without multiple judges
sometimes the best decisions are nor
always made especially if one judge
makes all the decisions" he said.
Moody usually serves as a debate
judge as well as a debate coach at the
tournaments.
