“Something New Under The Son”
After a lifetime pursuit of those things which thrill,
challenge, and give pleasure, Solomon pronounced his
judgement on the value of such things: “Thus I considered
all my activities which my hands had done and the labor I
had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after
wind and there was no profit under the sun... So I hated
life, for the work which had been done under the sun was
grievous to me; because everything is futility and striving
after wind.” (Ecclesiastes 2:11,17).
Solomon was wise and perceptive about the real pur-
pose of life. He had given his all to finding happiness and it
had eluded him. He knew that there had to be more to life
than what was represented by all the material “junk” he
had collected through the years, but he didn’t know
exactly what.
Centuries later Paul updated Solomon’s statement by saying, now there is something
new under the sun - the SON - the Son of God! For Solomon the Son rose too late to help
put his earthly life in its proper perspective. For us there is still time if *ve seriously will it.
Paul said, “Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature, (of God) the old things
(do-it-yourself style of life] passed away; behold new things (life in the Sonshine] have
come.” (II Corinthians 5:17)
Have you sought the proper perspective for your life? Are you putting pleasure, money
or things first in your life? Are you anxious? “But seek first His kingdom and His righte-
ousness; and all these things (Those needful things of life] shall be added to you.” You can
live a life of true peace and happiness. Where there is a will, there is THE WAY.
