Ho also added that Southern Hills
will continue support for missions
children's homes and other areas
that 16th and Vine previously sup-
ported financially.
The property of the congregation
will pass to Southern Hills. 'There
won't be any money involved; it
will just be a transfer of responsibil-
ities" Ncwhousc said adding that
the facilities might be used as a
location for Abilene Day Care
Nursery.
"There'd been some talk of them
building a building for this purpose.
They thought of us; we thought of
them. It was a natural merger"
Ncwhousc said adding that the cer-
emony to sign over the property
between the two churches would
occur Wednesday.
He said the two congregations
were extremely cooperative in the
merging process. "That's very
unique" Ncwhousc said.
"With church politics it's pretty
hard to get a lot of things done
cooperatively but this is a unique
situation."

U flnnlbptl. the nrocram would
hllow members to teach daily Bible
classes to children and would pro-
vide a latchkey program for chil-
dren in the area who return home
after school before their parents
return from work McKissick said
adding that senior adults would be
involved in the program.
"It is one of the most needed
works that wc have in the area"
McKissick said. "The way I look at
it with the help of more people
involved We can do more things
even in that community than the
Vine Church was able to do by
itself."
Ncwhousc also said church facili-
ties will enable senior citizens to
meet for different activities. The
fellowship facilities have a capacity
of 250 people for activities.
McKissick said ideas for activi
ties to utilize older members to
teach youth include a grnndmoih
pre' kitchen on Saturdays which
allows women to instruct younser
members to cook bake and scif c
others by delivering the food pre-
pared to needy people.
A grandfathers' workshop it
another idea that would enable
older men to teach carpentry to
hoys.
"These are dreams of course If i
it just gives an Idea of what wc can
do" McKissick said. "Southern
Hills is a very community-oriented
congregation."
Stevens former president of the
university said: "I think they can
accomplish a lot more. Somctirrtfj
you just put two groups together
and they do much more than they
could have done as two groups
working separately."
