CLOSING OF SCHOOL
Our school for 1915 closed with
plenty of amusement. The people
would have had the time of their
lives had not someone cut the
wires that furnished the Lights
gas. Lanterns, however, were
hung around so the stage could be
seen, as that was the place of
amusement. The program started
with some very fine music render-
ed by the High School Musicians.
The High School graduates were-
Re^Strickland and Clarence Bu-
ford, and Misses Geneva Taylor,
Genevieve Wilson and Gaynal
Glass. They were followed by
speeches from the children. Then
came the dialogue ‘‘Aunt Lucin-
dy Stays,” which was very suc-
cessfully rendered. It consisted of
Mr. and Mrs. Rock, who were
very up-to-date house keepers,
and their twTo old darkies, a woman
and a man. This was followed by
some very fine music rendered by
Miss Teresa Durrett. And ‘‘now
for my speech,” drolled out Logan
Porter, to a country girl who was
sitting by his side. Hands and
lips trembling as he jumped to the
stage, began his old time speech
which was, ‘‘If the wind hadn’t
carried off my Sunday breeches.”
Then came another dialogue which
was very fine.
Only two played “hooky,” to
keep out of saying their speeches
The audience was very much
pleased with the program. I t
closed with a nice talk from Prof.
Miles.
