THERE'S NONE OTHER
by Jack Lauder
Have you been to Howard Payne?
Have you seen this grand old
school?
Have you strolled along its wood-
ed walks
And by the dear old pool?
Well if you haven't seen it
You have missed a very great
deal
Because we the students think
It's the best one in its field.
The students at Howard Payne
we find
Are never never snobby
For this is the grand old school
Where "everybody is some-
body." We'ie not very large 'tis true
But this you'll never find
A school that is any dearer to me.
That old Alma Mater of mine.

Christ is the answer
To your life and mine
Please don't forget
Obey him in time.
For one sad day
And you never know when
You will be taken away
From this old world of sin.
Be prepared to meet him
On yonder beautiful shore
Where you live for ever
And part never more.
If you believe in the Lord our
Master
Whom you one day shall meet
Why not prepare to meet Him
At our Life Band Retreat?
It's just an old fashioned meeting
The preacher will be mighty fine
So prepare right now to meet us
Be sure and be there on time.
It seems my world has crumbled
And there's nothing left to do.
But hang my head in sorrow
And remain forever blue.
On this blue Monday
I have a lot to do
But I'll never be too busy
To stop and chat with you.
Today I'm blue and lonely
What will tomorrow bring
Another day of sorrow
Or an end to everything?

(Selective Service Tests
December 13 April 24
Brig. Gen. Paul L. Wakefield
state director of Selective Ser-
mcc reminded college students
recently that the deadline for fil-
ing qualification blanks for the
new series of Selective Service
college qualification tests is fast
approaching and he stressed the
importance of all eligible stu-
dents taking the test if they in-
tend to apply for deferment as
students.
The test dates in the second
series are December 13 1951 and
April 24 1952. The tests are con-
ducted by the Educational Test-
ing Service Princeton New Jer-
sey. Blanks may be obtained by
the registrant in any local board
office.
General Wakefield said that
students whose academic year
will end in January 1952 are
urged to apply for the December
13 test so they will have scores
in their files when the local
boards consider their cases in
January.
Application blanks f or the De-
cember 13 1951 test must be post-
marked not later than midnight
Monday November 5 1951. All
applications for the April 24 1952
test must be postmarked not later
than midnight March 10 1952.
The criteria for deferment as a
students is either a satisfactory
score (70) on the Selective Ser-
vice college qualification test or
satisfactory rank in class (upper
two-thirds of the sophomore
class upper three-fourths of the
junior class). Seniors accepted
for admission to a graduate
school satisfy the criteria if they
stand in the upper half of their
classes or make a score of 75 or
better on the test. Students al-
ready enrolled in graduate
schools may be deferred so long
as they remain in good standing.
The standards may be raised or
lowered as necessity demands. It
is not mandatory for the local
boards to follow the criteria.
