In the collapse of the opera house building
Iasi night nine persons were killed. The dead are as follows:
A. B. Weisner, superintendent of Mexia schools, Mrs. A. R. Weis
tier. O. (’. Hruion, Oscar Johnson, Claude Johanson. Paul Yell-
dell, Ray Cox, Ray Hitt and Tollic Womack. The children of
Mr. and Mrs. Weisner escaped from the building with slight in-
juries. The others injured art Mrs. Roy Mass, Mrs. (i. N. I.y-
cll, Mrs. John Davis. The properly loss is said to be $100,000.
The Mothers’ Clubs of (he schools were giving an entertainment.
I The accident took place about 7 :.T0.
A thorough search of the ruins this morning failed to reveal
other bodies, and the list as given out appears to he correct.
Fire Chief Richards believes the collapse of the second floor
of the opera house was the result of a gas explosion. Wit-
nesses say a heavy explosion was felt and that flames darted
(from the building before it tumbled down.

The flames which
|destroyed the opera house, also burned a general store, a res
| laurant and the Farmers National Hank. They were gotten tin
tier control about midnight.
The Western Union service was put out of commission by the
disaster, hut the railroad wire in the H. & T. C. office was intact,
i.s well as the telephone lines. These gave out the news lo
everyone as fast as demanded.
