It's Playoff Time
Lady Jackets to host NCAA second-round game Saturday
by Mike Lee
YJ Adviser
The undefeated Howard Payne
Lady Jackets already are in the sec-
ond round of the NCAA Division
III women's basketball playoffs.
On Monday the second-ranked
Lady Jackets' (28-0) learned that
for the second consecutive year
they were the only team among 63
in the NCAA III women's tourna-
ment field to receive a first-round
bye.
"It's a great feeling. We just
won a playoff game" HPU head
coach Chris Kielsmeier said after
Monday's announcement. "There
are 63 teams in the tournament
and 62 have to play to get to the
second round. The NCAA already
has put us there. It feels absolutely
great."
HPU will host the winner of a
first-round game between Trinity
(20-6) and McMurry (24-4). That
game will be played at 7 p.m.
Wednesday in Abilene.
The second-round game is
scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at
Brownwood Coliseum where the
Lady Jackets last year drew an
NCAA Ill-record crowd of 4005 in
their second-round NCAA game.
Tickets for Saturday's second-
round game will be on sale through
6 p.m. Friday at Brownwood
Coliseum and through 5 p.m.
Friday at the HPU athletic offic-
es and the Cashier's window in
Packer Administration Building.
On Saturday tickets will be avail-
able at the Coliseum Annex from
noon until game time.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults
$3 for students and senior
