nnerview
By CHARLIE MARLER
The stunned silence which hov-
ered over the north end of Fair
Park Stadium last Saturday night
echoed all way back to tho Hill
to the noiseless victory bell. There'
had been q calm surety all week
that ACC would "take the game"
nnd here we were on the short
end of the score.
Over on the McMurry reserva-
tion enthusiasm had been at a
feverish pitch during tho previous
Week. A determination that "they
wouldn't be beaten" was built up.
This was a large contributing fac-
tor in their victory over the Wild-
cats. "Win Movement" Evident
The Oct. 15 edition of the "War
Whoop" McMurry newspaper
mirrored a movement that was
taking" plate on tho Indian cam-
pus. An insight into this move-
ment will help explain to the ACC
student why we were beaten.
Read these quotes from their
paper:
"What will be the outcome of
the ACC-McMurry game?
"Freda Harrington: 'Oh scroun-
ge! We're going to beat 'cm. I
don't know how much but we'll
beat 'cmj'
"Clarice Douglas: 'I think the
Indians are going to give them a
little surprise.'
"Don Hunt: 'I think we'll beat
'cm. It'll bo 21-20 McMurry.' "
In an editorial entitled "This Is
the Game!" the importance of the
game was emphasized to the In-
dians: "... bo out there support-
ing the Indians with all you have
for nothing would bo better for
the reservation than a convincing
defeat over those over -grown
Wildcats! If we ever had a chance
to cut them down to size it is
this year."
Just tho Facts
On the sports side Don Ramsey
in his "Brave Chants" said "I'm
going to defy all convention and
say that the Tribe will take the
Wildcats by not one but TWO
touchdowns if not more. Some
people won't agree but that's the
facts Ma'am."

THE STUDENT AND GOD
School Spirit Adds
To Christian's Life
By JERREL ROWDEN
School spirit in connection with
athletic events is an important
thing. It adds that extra spice that
makes campus life enjoyable and
gives the variation necessary for
a well-rounded education.
But many times when students
become involved in the excite-
ment leading up to and during
these events their school spirit
turns into an abuse of the prin-
ciples of good conduct. Things are
said and dona that arc unbecom-
ing to a Christian. Thus reproach
is brought upon the name of the
school and even worse the will of
God is disobeyed.
School spirit is a good thing if
controlled but if it is not con-
trolled it can be bad.
When the other side gives an
unsportsmanlike or sacrcligious
yell to answer them In the same
way Is merely to commit the same
wrong.
The true Christian spirit will
ignore the "Yea McMurry" from
a passing car instead of answering
it with a handful of rocks.
Only praise can be held for the.
player who refuses to return thd
ainy piay ot an opponent.
And no one can look down on
the school that takes a defeat un
der their belt and admits "we
were beaten."
If these things are done regard
less of the score a victory will still
be won.
With Homecoming next weelc
followed by four more football
games and then basketball season;
we have several months packed
with Increasing school spirit
Get In there and do your part at
every game but be conscious ot
your every action and remember;
that through those actions you;
will either maintain the principles
of Christianity or lower yourself;
beneath the dignity of the name.
Christian. Which will you do?
