The volleyball team minus Coach Kathy
Moore" defeated Howard Payno in three
out pf five games Tuesday night in
Brownwood to pick up its second win In a
row.
The women played West Texas State
Thursday night but no results were
available at press time.
The Wildcats won the first two games 1G-
14 15-8 then lost the next two 0-15 8-15
and won the fifth game 15-11 to secure a
victory.
Moore became ill Tuesday afternoon and
knew she would be unable to travel with
the team. After a conference with Wally
Dullington director of athletics Moore
decided to send trainer Wcs Speights as a
faculty representative. Her husband
Kelly Moore went with the team as
surrogate coach.
"I was very glad Kelly was willing to
go" Mrs. Moore said. "I always knew
something like this would happen and I
didn't know what I'd do. Kelly was our best
candidate knowing the girls and
volleyball more than anyone we knew and
he was at hand and available"
Mrs. Moore said she was very proud that
the team had pulled together and won
.without her.
"It was fun and different for them" she
said. "They enjoyed themselves. They
discovered they know enough that they can
get along without me. I expect them to
know what to do. It shows a lot of class on
their part."
The Wildcats certainly knew enough to
win but it was by no means a smooth
operation said three of the team mem

Atkinson said the game was unorganized
but it was tho most enjoyable game they
had played.
"We really could have beaten lhdn
three games but it was more funny than
anything" said Hlgglns
Mrs. Moore said the reason behind the
confusion was because she had told licr
husband to play everyone If the team was
winning and he rotated players In and out
randomly Moore told his wife the of-
ficiating at the game was sloppy and
added to the carnival atmosphere The
officials gave two time-outs to ACU at one
point. Mrs. Moore quoted her husband as
saying It was the "most imaginative of.
flciating I have ever seen "
Because Moore tried to keep different
players in the game the women endfl p
playing positions they weren't accustomd
to "1 went in for Kari (Ward) on the front
line" Atkinson said. "I don't play the front
line" she added laughing.
The audience picked up on the easy
going attitude at the Wildcat bench and
added Its laughter to the game. "The
crowd was rolling" Ogle said.
Mrs. Moore said the game was good for
everyone concerned "My husband got a
new perspective on coaching. I ask his
opinion at home. I value his opinion but I
think he knows now how confusing it can
get."
Mrs. Moore said the unorthodox plnjfgg
did not concern her. "Wc need a UfjJ
that sometimes" she said. "Sometimes it
gets so frustrating in a game that you can't
win. The humor kept everyone relaxed."
She also said Moore wanted It known
that he is now claiming the title of the
winningest coach at ACU with an un-
touched record of 1-0.
