Wednesday Is the first day of Spring; time toi j
break out of dorm room cages and take a look;
at how the other half lives. Where's the best
place to start? The 200 of course. j
A trip to the Abilene Zoological Gardens. s
located in Nelson Park offers a look at several :
species of wildlife in pseudo-natural settings.
"The park houses animals from all over the'.
country and the world" said Debbie ;
Broughton zoo secretary.
The zoo is owned and operated by the City''
of Abilene but the animals residing at the zoo
are' purchased by the Abilene Zoological
Society which receives the gate receipts and
uses membership fees to support this project.
Marie Ramsey former president of the
Zoological Society said the city has helped -the
society complete a master plan that would
. bring African animals similar to the animals
native to West Texas to the zoo in a special
comparative setting.
A foundation is being formed to handle this
long-range developmental plan as the zoo
continues to grow said Jack Joy zoo
manager. Interested donors can contact the
zoo office at 677-6222.
The zoo Is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

zoo Is $1 for adults and 50 cents for children'-
