APPEAL AT CHAPEL
(Contlnuod from Pngo Ono)
os us in tho faco; and It does not tko
a banlol to road tho lmndwritlngVon
tho wall. Horo Hob tho opporunlty
for tho studont mlnlstoro to got bo-
hind tho situation and carry a flaming
brand of patriotism and duty boforo
tho pcoplo.
Tho government requires money to
carry on this war and lots of it. Sec-
rotary of Troasury McAdoo said in a
Bpccch In Dallas tho other day that
tho United States was going to havo
tho best cqulppod and best fod sol-
diers of any nation slnco tho begin-
ning to timo. All this will tako mon-
ey Liberty Bonds. Of all things that
tnako bo dlsgucstcd 1b tho talk of "I
can't invcBt In these bonds bpcauso I
am unable." Such talk Is born of ig-
norance and stamps tho man who
makes it as being so. Germany con-
Jcrlptcd thrco-fourth of her citizens'
neomes and out corporations and
wealthy men havo given throo;fourths
of tholrs.
; Hltci tho Bond 8lacker
Tho burden honcoforth must fall up-
on tho man of ordinary circumstances.
You say you will not support tho gov-
ernment. If you don't yoou will be
mado to; respond to tho Llborty Loan
or accept direct taxation. I may stop
on somobodlOB toes but ovory man
with an inccmo of seven hundred fif-
ty dollars Is disgraced if he does not
buy ono bond. Tho incomes of tho
wealthy classes have boon already
"virtually taken." Make up your
minds to accept your burden cheerful-
ly manfully and patriotically.
Tho man who doos not buy a bond
Because ho thinks somcono olso will ic
a slacker. I admire more tho man
who runs away from military service
In tho faco of tho dosertlon laws bo-
causo ho is a natural coward than I
do tho man who is able to buy a bond
and will not do it. Tho bond slackor
takes advantago of tho circumstances
and says to tho Government: "You
can't mako mo do it." It will mako
him do it if ho does not soon fork
ovor. Tho policy of tho government
is now to borrow froui you. Wake up
or soon it will change.
Judge WagBtaff closed by saying:
"Boys and Girls you may not agreo
with mev but you know whaUl said."

back Cran Hardin had broken his
collar bono. Ho will bo out of tho
noxt fow games; howovor if ho im-

has enabled him to mako a placo on
tho team whore smaller mon would
havo to learn by oxporlenco to do tho

anxious about his condition for ho

Tho accidqnt happened Tuesday af-
tornoon when J. Pat Greon was on-
j dcavorlng to show Hardin how to
fall under a man. Tho two locked

Simmons to play in Saturday's gamo.
CHAPEL BONES.
It is a well known fact that a fellow
can rovel In the satisfaction of making
a show of great learning and brilliant
oratorical ability when addressing an
audience out in tho backwoods; but
I addressing a college audience Is a dif-
ferent proposition. For -example:
mussing up a good poem will no longor
bo tolerated.
Dr. Cooper: "This Is a time when
every man and woman should nonder
soberly the great issueB of tho day
and give to tho nation tho very best
that is In them."
Tho boys who will work on tho
.platform aro dotormlnod that thoy
will do tholr part to bring tho propor
spirit to tho collego and maintain the
spirit of good cheor that is charac-
teristic of Simmons. As is shown by
'tho enthusiasm of tho membership
of tho Club thoro is no lack of "pop"
and earnest offort to mako tho Gloo
Club better this year than it haB ovor
been. Evory member is working hard
and with tho leadership and super-
vision of Miss McLean thoy aro as-
sured of an organization tho quality
of whoso work will bo bo surpassed
by any similar organization In tho
state.
Tho Club will not render programs
In other townB for some time but
hopes soon to bo able to furnish first-
class music to tho student body. Ab
in other activities of tho college many
of tho members aro now mon and
thoro Is work yot to bo done boforo
tho Initial appearanco of tho Club.
When thoy do rmdor a program It
1b assured tha it win hayo "Gloo" in
It to no miatakabl9degrQQ.
Tho membership 1b as follows:
Morgan Walton Saner Scuddy Ob-
toorno Beckham Spanglor Johnson
Douglas and Colo. Tho names aro
not given in order as thoro aro yot
some rearrangements to be made.

It is to be regretted that tho "Fish"
havo acquired tho expensive habit of
eating onions on the night of tho An-

The sluggishness of some of the Cow-

Is generally attributed to the fact that
thoy aro overfed at Alary-Frances.
Blessed are tho Cowden Hall Boys
For thoy delight in the laws of Mary-
Frances. (But regret that there will
