The favorito pastime of all thoso
persons posing as experts at this
time! of year seems to bo picking al
rsomething" or other teams. We fell
prey "to this urging every onco In a
t while and of course you do to. Our
selection Is not any better than yours
exceptin that ours gets printed (un-
less the editor reads it and finds that
ijf doesn't agree with his pick) and
So t gets moro criticism. Don't let
i that fool you though for yours would
"come in for the same razzberries If
'yours was printed.
" At rlgnt end re can see no one
. hut "Doodles" Bounds all-con-
- ference men for the past two
. -Beasons and better this year than
ever. before. Dad Amis of How-
ardf Payne says that "Bounds Js
the best end he ever saw and he
guesses he's 'seen a thousand.
i Jinx Tuckner of the Waco Tri-
bune holds Doodles up as the
J best end In the south and every
" on who has seen him play Is
ready to agree. We haven't seen
an end this year that threatened
his. position and no doubt he will
be a unanimous choice for the.
J Job.
- -tXC right tackle wo chooso Harris
ofSouthwestorn. Although not so
' well known in Simmons Harris has
been playing a good smashing game-
' and seems to merit tho position. At
least he' played a great gamo against
the 'Cowboys.

wfound the loop for his fine lay. He
AJ? flg enough to take care of him-

none other than "Swede" Pittman
who was also all-conference cen-
ter last falL Wright of Howard
Payno U Pilt'a most dangerous'
opponent but tho Swede is away
ahead of the pride of the Yellow
Jackets. One quarter of the
Swede's action was enough to
' convince the Waxahachle sports
writers that they had made a
mistake In choosing Wright on
their team before seeing Pittman
and the first half wasn't over
until they changed their minds
and marked Wright's name out
r Pittman is one of the greatest
linesman the Purple and Gold
eleven ever produced and we do
not doubt that he will again be
chosen as' all-conference center.
. V
Roland captain of the Trinity
Tigers and nil-conference guard last
year seems to merit another term at
the position. Kozelski his running
mate at the other guard is his chief
ppponcnt but Ski seems to lack the
experience and Iniative of his cap-
tain and comes a little short of the
mythical crow.
.
Red Jobcs alternate-captain of tho
Yellow Jackets and all-conference
tackle last fall is better than ever
according1 to press reports and should
be chosen again for the team. This
is Jobcs' last year with the Jackets
and he has turned in some of tho
best games olhls career notably
against St. Edwards
Lingo the phenomenal pass receiv-
ing end of Austin College gets our
vote over Rhomc last year's all-
conferonco end from Trinity and it
appears' very likely that" the young
man from Waxahachle will lose his
position. Lingoi has been playing the
best offensive end In tho loop and
his defensive work fs at par with
any of them except Bounds.
Janick the Pirate quarterback
is our signal caller. This little
field general waa a thorn in the
side of the Cowboys and has
proved equally as bad for his
other opponents. He passes and
runs and receives passes with
equal ability and runs Us team
well. Keeling of Austin College
- is his chief opponent but the
Kangaroos didn't get far enough
in the race to merit them a quar-
terback on the team. Austin
College passes too much inside
their own 20 yard line to please
us anyway.
At left half wo would use Boyd
captain of the Jackets and an all-
conference man last year. Boyd
runs passes kicks off punts and
anything clso he thinks about that
comes in a football game. Ele is the
best running back in the "Big Six.'
Boyd is the man who kicked two fiek
goals against the Cowboys last year
for the six points tho Amis men got.
As Boyd's running mate at the
other half we think that Blackburn
of tho Pirates is most capable.
Blackio can run kick or pass equally
well and is also unusually dependable
in marking up 3 points in gonls from
the field nnd in getting tho point
after touchdown.
Sam Dyer of the St. Edwards club
is our fullback. Sam played a strong
gamo against tho Cowboys until he
was injured and had the ball in scor
ing position when he left the field
Ho also went over big against the
Jackets and has shown up well in all
the conference encounters he has
played in.

POTMAN'S PLACE KICK
GIVES RANCHERS WIN;
II. P. LOSES CONFERENCE
(Continued from page 1)
.
Jackets were outplayed In every de-
'partment of the game thoughthey
put up one of the gamoat fights of
any team we havo seen play.
The Cowboys first opportunity to
score came as mentioned before with
only three or four minutes to play.
Sanders punted out 'of bounds on the
Jackets 8 yard line and Boyd got off
a poor return kick of only 15 yards.
Plunges by Sanders Walker and
Davenport carried the ball to the five
yard line but Wright knocked down
a pass from Walter to Bounds. Then
cama the return drive which resulted
in tho field goal.
Howard Payne attempted a field
goal from about the 35 yard line in
tho first half but "Doodles" Bounds
blocked it and Walter recovered.
Too much can not bo said for the
Yellow Jackets. They hav a power-
iui team anu put up a great iignt
against the Cowboys. Their sports
manship and clean flaying was of- a
Very high standard and won them
much commendation from tho largo
crowd.
Boyd and Jobes Star
Boyd and Jobcs were the outstand-
ing men on the visiting eVven bod
U the best running back in tha Teuas
Conference and vas a constait threat
In tho dashes off tackle and around
end. He is also a fair punter and
passer and no ono knows what his
place kick would havo meant to the
game had not "Doodles" Bounds
blocked it Jobes is ono of the best
tackles in tho conference He was an
nil-conference selection last season
and should be again this year. Timo
and again he broke through to throw
a back for a loss nnd not many times
were gains made over his position.
Hodges also put up a fine game and
Fields and Zarafonetls broke through
for soveral good gains.
Every man on tho Cowboy crow
played tho best football of tho sea-
son. While Pittman and Bounds were
the outstanding stars they lacked a
great deal of playing the game by
themselves. David Kuhn getting into
tho game for tho second timo this
year made several nico gains and
punted well before being replaced by
Sanders Pearce and Smith at tack-
les were at their best and proved to
be tough customers to handle. Pearce
played opposite Jobes and held his
own pretty well while Smith was
moro than a match for his opponent.
Jim Jennings and the Daniel Bro-
thers Claude and Halle held down
the guard positions and gave a good
uccount of themselves. Halle is not
as large as soma guards but he has
as much fight as anybody and tho
man who handles him has to keep
steady at tho job. Tho other two
men arc inexperienced but have been
playing Ilka veterans all season and
still they eclipsed all their former
efforts in a determined fight to beat
the Jackets.
Red Moore was second only to
Bounds in end play and very fow
gains were made at his position.
Moore is ono of the best ends in the
conference although ho doesn't get
the publicity that some ottier ends in
the loop do that he can outplay. Tho
only pass that was completed during
tho gamewas to Red for about 10
or 15 yards and placed tho Cowboys
in position for their field goal.
Sanders Punts Help
BUI Sanders went in near the close
of the first half and gave a fine ex
hibition of pluck in playing on a bad
ankle and showed the boys again how
to kick tho ball. His punting played
a big part in keeping Howard Payno
on the defense during tho last half
and the way ho was slicing them out
of bounds inside the 10 yard line kept
the visiting fans in hot water on seV'
eral occasions.
Davenport and Walker bore tho
brunt of the offensive work and both
of them were able to pick up good
gains at the line. Davenport played
his most smashing game of the sea-
son and piled into' the line with
hearty good will usually making his
hole where there were none. "Thrco
Yard" Walker lived up to his name
and easily averaged his trio of me-
ters and during tho closing minute
of play carried the ball nearly 40
yards in three or four dashes to tho
Jackets 5 yard marker. Only onco
was he thrown for a loss and was the
most consistent ground gainer on the
field. Walter ran the team well and
made several pretty returns on punts
as did Hyde while he was in there.
Cohn who relieved Smith played a
smashing game in stopping tho off-
tackle brushes of the visitors and did
good work In going down on punts
Bounds and Plttmnl
But to Doodles Bounds and Swede
Pittman goes the greatest credit.
Pittman kicked one goal and Bounds
1 j i
School of Mines 34 to 19
blocked another and both of them
were in every play Pittman easily
outplayed Wright Jacket center who
was aspiring for all-cdnfcrnnce
honors and 'will probably get Mr.
Amis' vote for conference Divot man
and most valuable man In tho loop
again. Bounds ended his football
career by getting everything that
camo his way and going nil over tho
field to get tho men who got by some
one else. He wns down on punts
nearly every time and was on top
of the visiting backs several times
when they fumbled momentarily be-
hind the line. These two men are the
best linesmen Simmons has had in
years and they closed their four years
of play by turning in their boat
games.
Although there were several fumb
les on both sides the gamo was fast
and thrilling throughout Both sides
tackled hard and clean. Not a single
penalty except 5 yards penalties for
off-side and incomplete passes was
given during tho gamo. There was
no holding clipping or slugging that
usually takes place in even the clean-
est games.
The weather was ideal clearing off
and warming up in the last hour or
so before starting time.
