Failure to get into the South-
west Conference was a bitter pill
for Texas Tech but this isn't
going to stop the school in striv-
ing for greater things in athletics.
Coach Dewitt Weaver last to
deny his disappointment said his
goal now is the best football team
in Texas.
He denied rumors that Texas
Tech would join another confer-
ence. "Our only endeavors have been
toward joining the Southwest
Conference" Weaver said. "We
are a major conference now
the Border Conference one that
provides stiff competition in all
our sports.
"Various circumstances can
arise of course and we ' shall
view any proposal with an open
mind. That's only logical."
But Weaver does not predict
anv immediate change.
"Actually despite our disap-
pointment a lot of good came
from our application" Weaver
said.
"For one thing we learned who
our friends are. I don't mean that
whoever opposed us is an enemy.
I believe that those against our
entrance are not as fully ac-
quainted with the situation as
they could be and as I hope
they may become.
"Many people have learned as
a result of the action of the great
school we really have out here.
And even though we did not
solicit such support the flood of
letters and telegrams from resi-
dents of West Texas and other
parts of the state prove the in-
terest there is in Tech already."
