Durham Liles Win
SAI Scholarships
Senior music students Judy
Durham and Myrna Liles were
judged winners in the Abilene
Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae's
seventh annual scholarship
awards recital Tuesday night at
First Baptist Church.
Miss Durham was awarded the
vocalist scholarship and Miss
Liles received the instrumental-
ist award for her organ per-
formance. OTHER H-SU music students
who appeared in the recital were
Dee Gibson voice; Linda Mont-
gomery voice; Rhea Nell Pigg
piano; and Jerri Sparks piano.
Judges were George Yaeer
Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra
conductor; Mrs. Wiley Caffey or
ganist; and Mrs. Dan T. Sorrels
vocalist. Entrants were judged
on the basis of talent and achieve-
ment in performance.
QUALIFICATIONS for en-
trants were that they be in good
standing in Gamma Phi Chapter
the H-SU affiliate of SAI; be
classified above freshman level;
be approved for participation by
her applied music instructor and
present major works or their
equivalents in the specific per-
formance area.
Mrs. Garland A. Morrow chap-
ter treasurer and associate pro-
fessor of voice and music educa-
tion supervised arrangements
for the recital.
One-Act Plays
Slated Dec. 13-14
Five H-SU drama students are
directing an evening of one-act
plays to be presented in Van
Ellis Theater Dec. 13-14 at 7:30
p. m.
Directing "The American
Dream" by Edward Albee is jun-
ior Diana Harper. Cast members
are Gloria Baum Mommy; Ray
Reeves Daddy; Sandy Vincent
Grandma; Johnette Russell Mrs.
Barker; and Bill Jackson young
man.
"CHAIRS." by Eugene Ione-
sco is directed by junior Mike
Dietz. Members of the cast are
Diann Cadenhead Old Woman;
Carlos Gonzalez Old Man; and
Don Thompson orator.
Senior Myron Miller is direct-
ing "White Lies." In the cast are
Marel Nash Sophie; Bobby

shown despite poor response at
the first movie decided Congress-

attended the showing of "Tea-
house of the August Moon" Nov.
23 but that in a previous meeting
it had been decided to show two
free films on a trial basis.

JUNIOR CONGRESS member
Sharon Kennedy chairman of the
Adopt-a-Child committee report-
ed that student "parents" for the
Dec. 9 will receive a letter in the
mail containing tickets for the
afternoon performance of the
Little Angels and information on.
where to meet in Behrens Audi-
torium. Miss Kennedy said that this
year the "parents" will find their
"children" in elementary school
groups rather than in one large
assembly.
VICE PRESIDENT Larry Alli-
son chairman of the committee
to investigate needed improve-
ments in the University Married
Housing project said that he had
met with Sergeant Busby who
heads maintenance and Married
Housing. Busby said that he
would help in obtaining informa-
tion on the housing and names of
occupants.
Questionnaires to survey condi-
tions in the project may be sent
to the residents reported Alli-
son. CONGRESS VOTED to send
President Charles Chambles and
Allison or an alternate to a
Leadership Conference at the
University of Houston Dec. 13-15.
The theme of the meeting is
"Skills of Planned Change." Con-
gress appropriated $125 for con-
ference expenses and transporta-
tion. Chambles suggested that a per-
manent ticket booth be obtained
to place in the SUB for ticket
sales and sign-ups for such events
as the Adopt-a-Child Day.
