Galveston to Brownsville and will
cause the building of a number of
cities of no mean importance. As
this place is easily accessible to
the only important entrance to the
gulf frdrp the inland waters be-
tween the two points names, it
stands to reason that business re-
sulting from the intercoastal canal
can but benefit us largely and
make an important station for the
handling of all kinds of cargoes,
and for the transfer of much of it
from the smaller vessels to those
of the sea going type, and vica
versa.
Postmaster Showaker reports
that the business of the local post-
offie continues to increase, and the
demand is felt for often adding
new equipment. Several times
during the past few months addi-
tional sections of boxes have been
added, the office enlarged, and
in the meantime the service bet-
tered with each change. The last
addition is of a new money order
window which was installed the
past week, and a section of forty-
nine new boxes. This makes the
fourth time during the past year
that additional boxes have been
added to the equipment, and each
time the demand was so great
that all the boxes were readily
rented at once after their install-
ment. Nothing gives an insight
into the business of a community
as does the business transacted by
the postoffice, and the fact that
this has continued to increase is
sa.d to be very encouraging.
J. W. Wilson and family, who
came here recently from Wichita,
Kansas, left this week for Loving,
New Mexico, where they have
some large property interests
which demand attention. Mr.
Wilson says they are much pleas-
ed with Aransas Pass, and will re-
turn here to make their home per-
mamint'-as soon as he can dispose
of his property in other parts.
During, the stay here, Mr. Wilson
purchased several pieces of valu-
able residence property and ex-
pects that he will profit consider-
ably by the investment within the
next few months to come.
