February 26th the Hardin-Simmons
Cowgirls began their quest for a fourth

The 82-67 win in the conference final
gave HSU a bye in the first round of the
NCAA Tournament and set them up to
host Guilford College out of North
Carolina this past Saturday at Mabee
Complex.
The game with Guilford was tight from
the start. Both teams came out strong with
neither team leading by more than three
points the entire first half. There were 18
lead changes in the first half to end it with
Guilford leading 38-36.
In the second half of the game the
2100 plus fans sat on the edge of their
seats as Guilford extended their lead to
five for most of the second half. It seemed
every time the Cowgirls began to gain
some momentum Guilford had an answer
with Julie Hardenbergh hitting four of five
treys or forcing a turnover.
The game began to change with 10:30
left in the half when Lauren Harris hit a
jumper and pulled the Cowgirls within
one-point. Two minutes later Tiffany
Turney-Potts put HSU up by one for their
first lead of the half.
The Cowgirls went down again by five and
with two minutes left had to began making
up the deficit. Veronica Jones helped the
team out a lot with a steal with 1 :33 left in
the game that led to a free throw and an
eventual jumper by Kendra Anderson.
Anderson made another jumper one minute
later to pull the Cowgirls within one.
Veronica Jones who had played a stel
lar defensive game up to this point contin-
ued her tenacious 'D' and forced a five sec-
ond call on Guilford's Erin Beacham to
give the Cowgirls possession.
After a time-out to set-up the play
Lauren Harris got free from her for an
open shot in the corner. Harris made the
shot with six seconds left putting the
Cowgirls ahead 72-7 1 .
The girls ended the game by stopping
Guilford from scoring on their final pos-
session. Final stats on the game show
Anderson's continued dominance scoring
28 points pulling 18 rebounds and dish-
ing out seven assists. Lauren Harris also
had an outstanding game with 16 points
including crucial jumpers when the
Cowgirls needed them and the game win-
ner. Laura Ricci contributed 1 0 points in
