Proper Attire
Mother was taking a mental in-
ventory of the wardrobe of Doris,
three years old, early Sunday morn-
ing. Doris was growing fast and
mother, very busy otherwise, had
neglected her wardrobe for a few
weeks and at last mother exclaimed:
“Doris, I don’t know what you’ll
wear to Sunday school today.”
Doris, who had received a locket,
of which she was very proud, as a
birthday present several weeks be-
fore, looked up brightly and said:
“I’ll wear my locket, mamma.”-—

Trace Ocean*$ Currents
by Wandering Derelict
Floating unguided on the Atlan-
tic ocean for more than a year, the
wreck of the lumber schooner Gov-
ernor Farr, abandoned by its crew
in October, 19v3, during a storm,
has been used as an aid in charting
the speed and direction of flow of
the sea currents. Traveling thou-
sands of miles since it was left to
“run wild” on the sea, the ship lias
been constantly reported from wide-
ly separated points along the
fcteamer lnnos. Ily checking up this
information, marine authorities are
able to correct their charts. Sev-
eral attempts to salvage or destroy
the wreck have failed. Once takeu
in tow by a coast-guard cutter, the
derelict had to lie cast looso during
a gale. Months later it wus sighted
off the coast of Portugal, and al-
though set afire in the hope it would
sink, the damaged vessel was seen
Again hundreds of miles from that
place.

Monument to Two Brave
Soldiera
Although tlie name Vincennes brings
most readily to mind (he heroine of n
celebrated historical novel, thnl little

which once atood there ahould be a
monument to the memory of two men
Francois Morgan de VIncenne, the
Frenchman. and George linger*
Cl uric, the American.
At early as 1030 (he French hnd
determined to build a chain of forte
through the great Inland empire of
America to ehealc British axpiiuelim
and one of the allca selected for till.-
purpose was on the U’ulmah river, or
the direct line of water conimunlr*

stands, another near Lafayette, Intel
fnmous ns Oultunon. end the third o>
the Wnbush, variously known ns I’ohi
Ounbache, Post St. Frauds Xavier and
Poeto Vincents.
In 1730 De VIncenne met a glorbuu
dentil during D'Artiiguotte's expedition
against the ChlckasMwa, and so hi
wne spared the pain of seeing his fort
fall Into British hands nt the end o'
tho French and Indian war. The Dev
owners gave to the rude Utile stock
nded fort which commanded the fowl
!h# nnino of Fort Rackvllle, for Sl>
Thornes Sarkvllle, earl Dorset.
In 1778, after George Rogers Clarl.
had captured Kssknskla upon (he nd
vice of Father Glhnult, he sent a
small force tindar CnpL I^onard Helm
to tnke the fort at Vincennes and the
French there readily turned It over tc
him. Then Helm renamed It Fori
Patrick Henry. He held It until Gov-
ernor Muinllton swooped down und re
captured It, but not until Helm hud.
bluffed the Briton Into alldwlng bln
nnd his garrison of one man to inarch
out with the honors of war I Bo th»
fort became Fort Bnckvllle again and
again was under the British flag.
Then followed the heroic march of
Clark and Ida Virginians across the
“I>rowned Landa" In the winter of
1770. the ehort alege during which the
bullets of Clark's riflemen sped With
uncanny precision through the loop-
hdles of Fort Bnckvllle to terrify lie
defenders, and dually Ihe surrender
of the fort. Again this ll'Ho log
