had Congress to create the biggest
borrowing and lending agency on
earth in order to deal with Wall
9‘reet and borrow money and try
to loan the country into prosper-

They call this collosaal octupus
a Reconstruction1 Finance Corpora-
tion. In their senseless, Staple-
Simon process they issued billions
of
a premium upon speculation, greed
and vdlliany. In a Scramble to
control the legally good money, the
crowd that controls the redeeming
money can pillage the countny at
will.
_______ They Issue them in denomlna-

advice and issued them in $5, $10
and $20 denominations and made
them legal tender they would have
given the common man p show

bless the country. Plutocracy pre-

base brigands have wilfully put the
country into such condition that
an honest, Earnest, incoming ad-
ministration must continue to feed
billions into their maw, In order to
temporarily relieve the country
with a hypodermic intoccutation.
How long, to God’s name, must
we submit to such outrage and

of the rule of the gold dollar dy-

7 am 41 years old, born and rear-
ed in Delta County, and have lived
in Cooper for some 35 years. I
have been engaged in the grocery
business for 22 c.gt irg, the same j
business that I now operate. In i
fact, it is the oldest grocery bus- |
mess in Cooper, and stall going. I i
think this is a good recoaid. In |
fact. I believe this Indicates that
a man who can run such a bus-
iness ■successfully for the pist
years is amply qualified to run any
kind of business.
I believe I am better qualified
for Mayor than either of my op-
ponents, in that I have not had a
soft job with a good salary, re-
gardless of the business done. In
my buslines® the salary depends
on What you do. U you do noth-
ing you get nothing—for that lea-
son I have been very active and
on the job early and late earning
and making miy own salary. I
have never acquired a big lot of
property that would cause me to
see just one Side of the tax-pacing
question. I know that we must
have tome tax to carry on the
town, schools, etc. At the Same
time I have enough propel - j • -
make me realize that taxes are
too high.
i am to accord with the opin-
ion of many of our citizen® that
the cost of operating the city is too
high.
If elected your Mayor I will con.
duct the affairs of the city to an1
economical and business-like man-
ner, giving to the duties of same
my entire time. In the above
statement I believe I know the full,
meaning of it, as well if not bet-
ter than either of the gentlemen
opposing me, as I have known all
my life the way to catry on a bus-
iness is to give it all my time, and
to keep the overhead expense
down.
I will not attempt to compare
the values of 1917 with that of to-
day, because in 1917 we installed
in Cooper a water and sewer sys-
tem that cost around $80,000; pav-
ed some streets which cost a large
amount, and at the same time the
city was Issuing scrip to pay their
tolls, which was sol^ on the streets
as low 66 fifty cents on the dollar.
The reason I know this I bought
some and carried it for some time
before I could cash it.
You naturally know when vou in-
cur indebtedness in installing a
water and sewer system and pav-
ing streets it will cost the tax-
payers money to pay ^or ^ame.
As the originator of the move to
reduce the price charged by our
utilities corporations, I feel that I

In the fall of 1931 I did all I i
could as a private citizen to se-
cure a reduction on the rates
charged bv our utilities corpora-
tions, caused a petition of some
266 names to be Signed thereto,
and I presented this in person to
the city officials. I met with them
and Showed them the rates charged
by other towns, which they said
they thought alright and promised
to call a meeting arid decide the

with the T. P. & L. CO. and got
an adjustment and reduction.
The light, gas and telephone
companies are owned by big bus-
iness and it will take hard work
to get the rates changed, but if
elected Mkriw I promise to do all
in my power to secure tor the cit-
izens of Cooper a reduction on
their rates.
As to the water and sower bus-
iness, this is ours. But I do not
see where anyone promises any-
thing on it. We know the price
ch'iirged for this is the same as tor
many years. This I know is the
most important thing of all—plenty
of water, because it has a lot to,
do with good health. However, I
think the price on water should be
lowered to erable everyone to have
this convenience without so great
a burden. I promise this will be
reduced along with the pubic util-
ities rate*.
