of school were Jim Landers for
April; and Deann Preas for
May.
During Jim's three years in
high school, he has participated
in Future Farmers of America.
Speech Club, Junior Engineer-
ing Technical Society, National
Honor Society, and UIL events.
He has served each year as an
officer in FFA; this year as
Chupter President. Being of the
Chapter Parlimentary team.
Landers has advanced to state
competition with the team.
Jim has been awarded the
“Perfect Attendance Award”
for the p«'t eleven ycirs. He
has advanced to Regional
Competition in Nu nber Sense
since his freshman year.
Jim's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Gene Landers and he
attends the Lake Creek Presby-
terian Church. Jim plans to
attend Paris Junior College,
with hopes of becoming a
self-employer in the ranching
business.
NHS Initiation
The Cooper Chapter of
National Honor Society initiated
new members into the organi-
zation yesterday (Wednesday)
in a formal ceremony before the
high school assembly.

Deann Preas. daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry Preas, was
selected by the faculty as the
Student of the Month for May.
The eighteen year old senior
has been very much involved in
band and athletics during high
school.
She has been majorette three
years, serving as head this year.
Deann was selected as the
Outstanding Band Member,
Band President, and Band
Sweetheart.
She has played on the varsity
basketball team three years,
selected for the All-District
team this season.
She has been a member of
FHA three years. Speech three
years, and Jets two years.
Deann will be inducted into the
National Honor Society this
week.
A member of the First Baptist
Church in Cooper, Deann has
participated in choir events.
Deann plans to work with her
family at the Delta Country Club
this summer and plans to earn a
nursing degree.

Cheerleaders
With only one hold-over.
Paula Wilkerson, five new
Cheerleaders were judged by
East Texas judges Tuesday,
May 10.
Selected were Christel Mc-
Kim, Dianna Messick, Laura
Slough, Roxanne Gaddy, Holly
Pederson. Tonya Reynolds was
named as mascot.
Speech Club
Meeting Held
The final Speech Club
meeting was held Tuesday
evening as members attended
the movie, “Young Franken-
stein" in Greenville and ate
pizza at Commerce.
Larry Goddard conducted the
election of 1977-78 officers and
presented sponsor Mrs. Wade
Bledsoe with a gift.
Librarians from 33 cities in
the Northeast lexas area
attended the v<,>rkshop for
librarians at Paris Junior
College Wednesday, 4|ay A
said Mrs. Hill Jones. dirStor of
continuing education at" PJC.
The workshop was sponsored by
Region VIII of the Education
Service Center in Mt. Pleasant,
the PJC Continuing Education
Division and the Learning
Resources Center at the college.
Those attending the workshop
were from Pans, Mt. Pleasant,
Mineola, Detroit, Texarkana,
Bonham, Daingerfield, Atlanta,
Bogata, Talco, White Oak, Mt.
Vernon, Dallas, Greenville,
Cumby, Deport, Hooks, La-
donia, Honey Grove, Sherman,
Cooper, Queen City. Com-
merce. Jefferson, Pittsburg,
Sulphur Springs, New Bo-ton,
Clarksville. Simms, Aldine.
Denison, Hughes Springs, and
Talco.
Attending the workshop from
Cooper was Ruth Wigley of the
Cooper High School.

Recognized
Four Senior Homemaking
Education Students have been
recogniz d for their Outstand-
ing Achievement toward the
program 1'>76-77.
Nancy Waters, Jill Burrow,
Michelle Alley, and Beverly
Beierle’s pictures will appear in
the National Who’s Who in
High School Homemaking Pro-
gram Almanac.
Ann Patterson was recogniz-
ed for the work she has done for
the local chapter.
FHA Program
Mrs. Ann Chaney of Com-
merce presented a program for
approximately a hundred home-
making students last Friday
morning on the newest trends in
House Decorating.
The focal point was window,
wall and floor treatment in
decoration, and furniture ideas.
Civic Class
Studios Needs
The senior civics' classes are
currently studying a simulation
of energy needs in a small
community. Each student is role
playing different laymen, exe-
cutives, and other members of a
community.
Mrs. Sandra Watkins is
supervising the study.

Sunday before Iasi, being
Mother's Day, we had a
multitude of visitors in our fair
city. Mr. and Mrs. Zollie
Crumbley were graced with a
pace! of well wishers; Mr. and
Mrs. Bloyce Crumbley and
Kevin of Pacio, Mr. and Mrs.
Doug Reid of Paris, Mr. and
Mrs. J.D. Townsend and Linda
Gentry of Paris. Here is
something to make all you
mothers jealous. Glenn Crumb-
ley of Lawton, Oklahoma sent
Mrs. Crumbley one dozen of red
roses and even called her for
Mother’s Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Dee Jackson
were proud hosts to Mr. and
Mrs. Jerry Wayne Smiddy,
Teresa, Beverly, and Chad of
Mesquite.
The LaFray Mitchells played
Grandma and Grandpa last
week to Chaney Scarborough
when mommie, Shelby, came to
visit for a week along with Nita
her sisiter. Guess what folks,
the stork is going to fly again
over the Scarborough house
sometimes in August. Congrat-
ulations, Shelby and Rickey.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Morgan
graced our fair city Sunday
visiting with Mr. and Mrs. L.E.
Hnnch, Mike, Juli- and Jeff
were an added bonus.
Mrs. Minnie Branch had the
pleasure of Mr. and Mrs. L.E.
Branch company on Saturday.
We understand that wedding
bells are going to ring for our
new store keeper on June 3,
1977. Yes, Jenny Powell and
Manuel Gentry, Sr. of Pacio are
going to tie the knot. Manuel
and brother Buster and son
Michael are building a new
house in Pacio lor the new
tamily to start off on the right
loot. Good luck from the city of
Lake Creek.
We are sorry to have to
inform you that Mr. A.L.
Anderson passed away on the
13th. Funeral services were held
the 15th at 3:00 p.m. Our
greatest sympathy to the family.
Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Williams
had their grandbabies down on
Saturday. Boy, are they cute!
Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Rolling are
still expecting the stork over
their grandchild’s house. Guess
he had a few too many stops to
make. Hold on great-grand ma
and pa. he will get around.
Mr. and Mrs. Bloyce Crumb-
ley had a visit from their
daughter. Nancy, and Dan this
week. Looks like the stork days
are here for these proud people,
too. Boy, is he going to be busy.
Nancy is expecting in July.

Mrs. Stegall is a delegate

meeting in Boston. Mass., June
23-30.
At ETSU. Mrs. Stegall is
president of Eta Epsilon, a
student section of the Texas
Home Economics Association.
