To Special Football Bout 1 Vofe Count Remains Secret

A challenge has been presented
to the freshman class from the
upperclassmen through the Stu-
dent Congress.
The challenge presented by-
Mary Lois Patterson at Monday's
Freshman Class meeting will
consist of a football game between
upper and lowerclassmen.
The game scheduled for Friday
Sept. 30 behind Lange Hall at 4
o'clock will be comprised of
freshmen women playing the up-
perclass women the first half and
the second half consisting of the
opposites. Cheerleaders for each
half will be the opposite with boy
cheerleaders the first half.
Longer Beanie Wearing
To meet the challenge the
freshman class must have at least
one half of its members present.
If the challenge is not met the
beanie burn may be extended
meaning that beanies will be
worn longer.
Other business transacted at
the Student Congress meeting
Monday evening was the appoint-
ing of students to serve on com-
mittees. The appointments were
made by Dr. Elwin L. Skiles
H-SU president who stated that
the appointments were in accord-
ance with positions held.
Committee Appointments
Jim Porter Student Congress
president and Robert Murray
business manager were appointed
to the General Affairs Commit-
tee. P. E. Club Meets Monday
Rose Field House is the place
for the Physical Education club
meeting Monday September 25
at 7:00 p. m.

Jenise Blackburn secretary was
named to the Academic Commit-
tee. The second appointment was
unnamed pending Wednesday's
election results.
Appointed to the Publications
Committee were Porter and
Randy McDonald junior class
president. Porter and McDonald
are to appoint six additional com-
mittee members.
A Student Conduct Committee
consisting of nine juniors and
seniors will be announced after
the students have agreed to the
position.

Publications
Applications!
Being Taken!

Applications are now being
taken for several publications
positions. All of the positions
open carry scholarships.
Jobs open include two Brand as-
sistant editor positions; two as-
sistant Bronco editors; two assist
ant publications business man-
agers; chief photographer for stu-
dent publications and assistant
photographer.
The assistant editor positions
for the Brand and Bronco as well
as the assistant business manager
jobs carry $100 per semester
scholarships.
Applications must be completed
and returned by September 29.
They may be picked up at Mrs.
Billie Lacy's office Abilene Hall
B-5 or the journalism office on
the second floor of Mary Frances
Hall.
Selection of applicants is ex-
pected to be made Oct. 3 by the
Publications Committee
Majors or minors in journalism
are not prerequisites for selection.

This is Abilene Day
Today Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity salutes Abilene her city.
The highlight of Abilene Day
was to be a special assembly this
morning in Behrens Chapel.
Purpose of the special assembly
is for the students faculty and
administration of this University
to recognize the many contribu-
tions of Abilene to the growth of
Hardin-Simmons.
Special invitations were ex-
tended to civic church business
and industrial leaders from Abi-
lene and the surrounding area.
Abilene public school officials
were also special guests. All local
residents were extended a gen-
eral invitation to attend.
Featured speaker for the as-
sembly was to be Kathryn Duff
assistant editor of the Abilene
Reporter-Nows and well-known
writer of the Page One column
which appears in the newspaper.
Miss Duff is an alumna of
H-SU and is a well-known figure
on the campus.
Following her address Dr.
Rupert N. Richardson professor
of history and president emeritus
of the University was to speak of
the University's appreciation for
Abilene's support and interest in
all the school's affairs.

guests was to be held in the
President's Rpom in the Student

John Henvey Dallas senior
emerged from a two-man race
Wednesday as the new vice-president
of the Student Congress.
Henvey defeated Terry Brox-
son from Midland. Margin of the
victory is unknown since exact
vote totals are not released in
keeping with a Student Congress
policy.
The contest was considered a
toss-up during the campaign.
Run-off
In the day's other contest
Mike Wilson of Midland and John
Wofford of Abilene won them-
selves spots in a special run-off
election for a vacant junior sena-
tor spot. Wilson and Wofford
edged out Myron Miller in the
Wednesday balloting.
Juniors were to finish their vot-
ing business from 8 a. m. to 2 p.
m. today at the balloting place in
the Student Center.
Enact Proposals
Henvey said after being told
that he had been successful in his
bid for office "I would like to ex-
press my appreciation for the sup-
port of the people who voted for
me and with the consent and help
of the Senate and the House I
will try to enact all the proposals
that were included in my plat-
form." "This is one officer of the House
that wants students to tell him
what they want done" he added.
Necessitated By Transfers
The election for vice-president
was necessitated by the transfer
of Cheryl Foster who was elect-
ed to the office last spring. Bal-
loting for the junior senator posi-
tion was called when George
Scharmen failed to return to
school here this fall
Petitions for class favorites are
due Monday with the election to
be held Wednesday The election
will' Pick favorites from the sop-
homore junior and senior classes.
