Three Players Named All-District
Coaches Select Kotulek, Smith, Hadash

Three members Of
the El Campo High
School baseball team
have been honored
with selection to the
All-District 14-AAAA
team Pitchers Mark
Kotulek and Barry
Smith and designated
hitter Kenneth Hadash
were named to the
team in voting by
district coaches
For Kotulek, it
marks the second
straight year as an All-
District player The
senior right-hander
was a outfielder on the
District 25-AAAA team
last year Smith, a
junior, was a second-
team selection as a
third baseman in 1980
and Hadash, a senior,
received honorable
mention last year as a
second baseman.
An apparent quirk in
voting procedures
resulted in Hadash’s
selection as a
designated hitter. He
played shortstop ex-
clusively for the
Ricebirds in 1981.
MARK KOTULEK
Hadash was the
Ricebirds’ leading hit-
ter with a .426 average.
Kotulek was next at
.321 Smith was the
leader in RBI with 19.
On the mound, Smith
turned in a 7-1 district
record with a 1.17 ERA
and 67 strikeouts.
Kotulek was 6-2 with a
2.88 ERA and 51
strikeouts.
All figures, batting
and pitching, are for
district competition
only.
Catcher Glenn
Nohavitza and second
baseman Darrell Har-
ton garnered sufficient
support to earn second-
team honors. Both are
juniors. In addition,
Kotulek and Smith
were named to the se

baseman respectively.
Seniors Chris Puste-
jovsky and Jerome
Dorotik received
honorable mention.
Dorotik was a first-
team designated hitter
last year and Pustejov-
sky earned honorable
mention in 1980 as well.
District runner-up
Wharton led the way
with five first-team
players The Tigers
also had the MVP,
Steve Padia. However,
Padia was not named
to the first team.
District champion Bay
City placed four
players on the honor
team. Brazosport and
Santa Fe had two each
and Willowridge one.

senior. Brett Keeton,
Friendswood, junior,
was named Newcomer
of the Year. And Walt
Wendtland, Bay City,
was named Coach of
the Year.
Wendtland was cited
for leading the Black
Cats to their first
district championship
in 24 years. He did so in
his first year as head
coach at Bay City. The
Black Cats were
eliminated from fur-
ther play Friday night
when they dropped a
7-4 decision to South
San Antonio West
Campus. The Cougars
won the best two-out-
of-three bi-district
series in two games
Oilers, Colts Now Tied
For First In Senior League
The Oilers lost their
first game and the Colts
won three to move into a
tie with the Oilers for
first place.
With identical 7-1
records, the Oilers and
Colts lead the standings
in the Senior Little
League The Giants have
a lock on third with a 4-3
record The Bankers are
fourth at 3-4 and the Jets
are fifth at 1-6. The Elks
are still winless with a 0-7
record
Colts 2, Jets 1
In a pitcher’s dual, the
Jets’ Greg Baklik gave
up only five hits, but the
Colts managed to win last
Wednesday’s game. Dar-
rin Stock was the winning
pitcher for the colts,
allowing just four hits.
Jeff Fucik led the Colts
with two singles. Glen
Borak doubled and Stock
and Darrin Wigginton
singled for the Colts.
Baklik doubled for the
Jets and Pat Escalana,
Brinnith Grays and
Larry Walton singled.
Oilers 10, Elks 6
Elks’ pitcher Leo
Viana five hit the Oilers,
but it wasn’t enough for
the win last Wednesday.
Todd Stepan pitched a
four hitter for the win.

the year for the Oilers
and the Colts’ win moved
them into a tie for first.
Allen Heard gave up
only eight hits, singled
twice and was the winn-
ing pitcher for the Colts.
Darrin Stock hit three
singles and Mike Appling
doubled twice to lead the
Colts
Along with Heard, Jim-
my Svatek and Gerald
Wigginton singled twice
for the Colts. Jeff Fucik
and Larry Martinez
singled.
Duane Hrncir gave up
13 hits and was credited
with the loss. Todd
Stepan and Ronnie Socha
singled twice to lead the
Oilers. Hrncir doubled
and Jarrel Strnadel, Paul
Rod and Craig Ellis singl-
ed.
Giants 13, Bankers 11
The Giants win Thurs
day kept them solidily in
third place. Hector Solis,
allowing only five hits,
was the winning pitcher.
Solis, Erik Moller and
Brian Hlavaty singled
twice to lead the Giants.
Steve Dorris, Bobby Can-
treas, Tim Anderson and
Jesse Celeya singled.
Vince Martinez doubl-
ed and was credited with
the loss for the Bankers.
Bill Kubela, Tony Mar-
tinez, Albert Ortiz and
Merlin Roberts singled.
Cardinals Still Unbeaten In Pee Wee League Action
The Cardinals remain-
ed undefeated, beating
the Falcons, who suf-
fered only their second
loss. The Astros won
their second game of the
_ year.
With a 7-8 record, the
Cardinals stay atop the
standings in the Pee Wee
League. The Falcons lost
their second game, drop-
ping their record to 8-2.
The Colts are in third at
5-3 and the Bears are
fourth 4-3. The Met* are
in fifth with a 3-4 record.
The Mustangs are 2-5 and
one half a game ahead of
the Astros at 2-6 The
Braves are eighth at 1-7.
Bears 12, Braves 4
After 23 hits and 12
runs, the Bears came out
on top with a win last
Tuesday. The Braves had
11 hits in the game.
Keith Klatt led the
Bears with three singles
and a triple. Tony Janke
and Gilbert Delgado
singled three times and
doubled and Brad
Polasek singled twice
and tripled. Lee Wilbeck
singled twice and Jeff

League Holds Barbeque Dinner,
Money Used To Expand Park
It’s Little League
barbeque time again.
The barbeque dinner,
scheduled for June 14,
will benefit the Little
League Association and
proceeds will help build a
new baseball diamond.
Billy Rioux said
“We re going to have to
build a new baseball dia-
mond park, due to the
possible expansion of the
KC Hall for parking lot
facilities.” Rioux said.
“We’re going to move the
Senior League park south
of the Little League
park "
Last year, money from
the dinner was used to
buy lights and light poles
for the new field.
Tickets will be sold
Wednesday June 10 at 5
p.m., door to door, but
the kids will not have
tickets to sell any other
day.
“The kids will meet at
Commercial State Bank
and go out and sell
tickets,” Rioux said.
“The Idds will go door to
door to sell tickets but
once they sell their
tickets, they will no
longer have tickets to
sell. They’D turn in their
money at the end of the
day.
Tickets can be bought
Thursday and Friday at
Commercial State Bank,
but will only be sold by
the children Wednesday,
June 10 and will be
available at the door Sun-
day. The price for the
barbeque chicken dinner
is $3.50 a plate.
Lawrence Socha and
Ed Strnadel Jr will
prepare the chicken at
the Knights of Columbus
Hall and start serving at
11 a m. June 14.
Last year, the League
sold approximately 2,000
tickets and expects to sell
3,000 this year.
The Girls Little League
Softball will hold a raffle
at the barbeque dinner.
Raffle tickets are three
for $1 and 50 cents each.
The raffle will be held at
1 p.m. at the KC Hall.
Tickets are available
from Little League Tee
Ball and Softball girls.
First prize is one half a
calf, cut and wrapped.
Second prize will be a
hind quarter and third a
front quarter, cut and
wrapped. Fourth prize is
a $100 savings fxind and
fifth prize is a $50 savings
bond.
