SAN DIEGO - The San Diego
Independent School District Board
of Trustees has voted unanimously
to extend the contracts for the su-
perintendent. all principals and
administrators. The action came at
the hoard’s regular meeting held
on Thursday, March 24.
The board gave Superintendent
Braulio Ruclas a two year exten-
sion to his contract. They also ex-
tended the contracts for all four
campus principals for one year.
Principals now have two year con-
tracts.
Also receiving one year exten-
sions were all assistant principals,
counselors, program directors and
other administrators. The board
also approved contracts for all
teachers, including those who need
to work on deficiency plans.
The hoard also accepted, with
little discussion, the final report
from the Texas Education
Agency’s recent accreditation visit.
The visit was prompted by the jun-
ior high’s failure to score more
than 2() percent pas sage i n the Texas
Assessment of Academic Skills
tests.
Ruelas said he would agree with
the report in a formal response to
the TEA. He added that the only
action needed was board discus-
sion of the report.
“la* the record show that we
discussed it.” said board president
Tommy Molina, even though the
report was not on the meeting’s
agenda
“There are some positive com-
ments in the report” said Molina,
‘hopefully they will be reported.”

ready working on,” said board
member Libby Vela.

with one person.” said trustee Juan
Antonio Perez in nominating Mar-
tinez. **there are so many qualified

Martinez will take his seal on
the board at their next meeting.
The board also discussed their
plans for a bond election to build
new schools. The item was placed
on the agenda merely for discus-
sion.
Business manager Keith
Sutherland told the board that the
district’s finance committee had
met and recommended that a bond
election be considered for $9 mil-
lion to build a new high school, a
new junior high school and a sports
complex.
Board members discussed the
need to hire a financial adviser,
select an architect, and hold an
election. Molina appointed Vela to
serve as a committee of one to
work with Ruelas on election de-
tails.
In other business, the board:
• approved, with Vela abstain-

Express credit card; and
• approved a waiver for open
court supplementary readers.
All board members, except for
Perez, said they would attend a
school board conference in Phoe-
