San Angela Is Site
For Saturday Trip
BmBI'. rVBMl M
By CHARLIE SMITH
Optimist Editor
Well for those who have been
waiting hell finally froze over.
This week Abilene Christian Col-
lege sponsors a student trip to
San Angelo.
Sport3 fans were overjoyed
this week with two 'playoffs going
on at the same time. In California
between the Dodgers and the
Giants and in Mississippi be-
tween the United States and the
Confederacy.
Dr. M. Norvcl Young said it:
"We as Christians should love
people -and 'use things. But we
sometimes get it backwards."
An important anniversary in
the history of the world is com-
ing. On Oct. 9 13 B.C. P. B. Plum-
bum the world's first plumber
presented a bill for some work he
had done on an aqueduct. In-
censed because they thought the
plumber had overcharged them
the city officials and the citizens
of the town established a prin-
ciple which is still true today: A
plumber might have many as-
sociates but he has only one
friend.
Just goes to show that corn
grows in Texas too.
Maybe actions do speak louder
than words but it has always
seemed to us that words are
usually spoken lofuder than act-
ions. Although not too many people
know it we almost had Rex Allen
as a replacement for Peter Paul
and Mary. Monday Students As-
sociation President Charles G.
Groves found a note on his desk
which said that the folk singers
wouldn't be able to appear at
ACC because of a previous en-
gagement. Hex Allen the note said could
be sent as a replacement. Further
the note sajd to contact Carolyn
Cunningham for details Implying
that she had taken the long dis-
tance call from the booking
agent.
Groves a gullible soul immedi-
ately panicked. Peter Paul and
Mary couldn't pull a trick like
this on him; after all the contract
had already been signed.
He informed the administration
and a hunt was begun for the
contract. (We don't know if the
contract has been found yet.)
After the initial shock wore pff
Groves became skeptical. An
agency just wouldn't send Rex
Allen as a replacement for Peter

area. Each club will have equal

According to Dean of Students
Garvin Beauchamp this year's
carnival theme lends itself to
more prlginallty and imaginative
workmanship than themes of pre-
vious years when size was the
major factor. Beauchamp also
stated that last year too much
emphasis was placed on the dis-
plays. Along with the competitive
spirit of winning in the display
division he feels the students
should also emphasize the win-
ning of the football game.
