County announces
building plans
The Commissioner's Court of Ar-
cher County has recently announced
plans for the restoration of the Archer
County Courthouse and construction
of a courthouse annex building.
The county had previously applied
for grant monies from the Texas His-
toric Courthouse Preservation Pro-
gram. Archer County's application
ranked 9th out of approximately 75
counties. The county received
$ 120,409 to fund planning and archi-
tectural services. Harper & Perkins
Architects of Wichita Falls have been
retained to complete plans for the
courthouse restoration. Providing that
the legislature approves continued
funding for this program, the county
could receive the full grant in Sep-
tember 2001, and construction could
begin in early 2002. Total cost of the
courthouse restoration is estimated at
$ 1.9 million, and the county would be
responsible for approximately
$250,000 of the cost.
The courthouse annex is to be con-
structed on county owned property
located south of the courthouse square.
Three buildings owned by the county
would be removed to make room for
the annex. The annex will contain
approximately 13,500 sq. ft. of office
and storage space and plans call for
the relocation of the County Tax As-
sessor/Collector, County Clerk,
County Attorney, County Probation
office, Indigent Health Care, and Jus-
tice of the Peace Precinct 1 into the
new building. The annex will help to
alleviate overcrowding in the court-
house, as well as improve access to
county services. The estimated cost
of the annex is $ 1,000,000. Funds for
construction will be obtained through
the sale of tax notes and will be paid
off over a 7 year period.

I A YME THOMPSON. in concert Saturday night at the Royal
Theater. A Ministerial Alliance presentation.
The Archer City Ministerial Alli-
ance is proud to present Jayme Th-
ompson in concert at 7:00 pm at the
Royal Theater on Saturday, January
27, 2001.
Jayme Thompson is an artist/
songwriter with a passion for the Lord
that shines through her words, her
music and her everyday life. As an
artist, she strives to use music and
worship to share the hope of Christ
with those who are searching, and to
encourage believers toward a greater
understanding of a commitment to
God's plan. In her own words, "I
want people to know that life has
meaning. That God has made us the
way He has and placed us where we
are on purpose. We need to ask Him
each day what He wants us to do in
order to fulfill our roles in the bigger
picture." Her music has been received
by a wide variety of audiences as
Jayme has ministered in church con-
certs, college functions, youth events
and other special events.
This is a free concert and everyone
is invited. All young people in the
community are especially encour-
aged to meet at the Royal Theater at
6:00 pm for a free pizza party. Dona-
tions will be accepted at the concert.
We want to remind all interested
that Sunday night, January 28th we
will conclude our "Archer City In
Concert" series with a community
Christian service at 7:00 pm at the
Church of Christ located at South
Beech Street. Derland Bahr, minis-
ter at the Church of Christ, will be
speaking on, "The Hope of our In-
heritance." This will conclude our
series. We want to thank all who
participated and especially thank the
Royal Theater and the High School
for the use of their facilities. The
Ministerial Alliance trusts that these
meetings have caused the Christian
Community to grow in faith and love.
Archer City pays tribute to Board of Education during School
Board Recognition Month
Before leaving office Governor
George Bush proclaimed January as
Public School Board Recognition
Month. There are 565 student reasons
why school board members are im-
portant to the Archer City Indepen-
dent School System. Our seven board
members are part of a larger group of
7000 members that serve the state of
Texas. Our board members are lo-
cally elected trustees that serve three-
year terms without pay. They make
policy, set budgets and work to en-
sure academic excellence and ac-
countability for students, teachers and
administrators. "Our volunteer school
board members serve countless hours
after their own workday making deci-
sions to improve education and repre-
senting the district in various ways,"
said Superintendent Randel Beaver.
This past year out school trustees
developed a new policy manual and
placed it on the school web site and
they have also had to make many
tough decisions on complex educa-
tional and social issues which impact
the entire community and the lives of
individual students. Our school board
members are the voice of the district
communities, parents, and students.
They provide leadership for student
achievement, academic programs,
district funding, and school facilities.
They deserve recognition and thanks
for their commitment and dedication
to the continuing success of our stu-
dents and schools. Most of their ef-
forts go unrewarded. Often, the only
response school board members get
is criticism. Please say thanks to our
board members the next time you see
one.
The seven men serving the ACISD
are:
President Ronnie Williams, owner
of USA Rockbit in Archer City, has
been on the board since 1988.
Vice-President Pat Martin III, con-
tract oil field pumper, has been on the
board since 1995.
Secretary Gary Rowe, Jr., business
owner insurance firm Dickey,
McGann & Rowe, Inc. of Archer
City, Olney, & Electra, has been on
the board since 1994.
Member Jerry Phillips, loan officer-
First National Bank Burkburnett-
Wichita Falls Branch, has been a
board member since 1992.
Member Joe Roderick, lab techni-
cian at Vetro-Tex in Wichita Falls,
has been a board member since 1999.
Member Steve Stults, Vice-Presi-
dent Production Burke Royalty Co.
in Wichita Falls, has been on the
board since 1998.
Member Dr. Joe Hayley, Optom-
etrist at Hayley Eye Clinic in Wichita
Falls, is the newest board member
and he was elected in May of 2000.
