It’s that time of year again! Time
to reflect on all the wonderful things
we have to be thankful for. We are
lucky to live in a town with such
friendly people and wonderful
businesses. We have so many great
assets, that we don’t always
acknowledge, because they are just
always there. Well, hats off to ALL
of our Archer City businesses -
thanks for being there! As we get
ready for all of the hustle and bustle
that rolls on in with the holidays,
please remember to shop at home
whenever possible. Support your
friends and neighbors and keep those
tax dollars in the community.
The Chamber of Commerce, with
cooperation from the Archer City
Post Office, now has updated Post
Office box books on sale for only
$2. These books are up to date as of
10/29/96 and will be of great help to
anyone who mails anything to
anyone in Archer City. It is very
important to have the correct box
number to insure fast and accurate
delivery. Call 574- CITY for more
information or stop by the office at
205 South Sycamore on Tuesdays
through Thursdays to pick one up.

on their season’s play. They have
played hard and have done a great job
of representing the Archer City. We
are very proud of all of you!
“Baby it’s cold outside” is a song
many of us have brought forth to
memory since the cold snap has hit
here in North Central Texas. We
seem to feel it most at those
Thursday and Friday night football
games as we bundle up to support
our home team. Those football
boys, band members and cheerleaders
are cold too, but they are ALWAYS
there to entertain you, so let’s give
them our support! Don’t forget
Archer City Fans, there’s a Band
Booster bean supper before the game
this week, from 4:30- 7pm so you
won’t even have to cook! It’s an all
you can eat affair, so come hungry!

ACHS Student Council
Sponsors Assembly
In recognition of NATIONAL
HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
WEEK, the Archer City High School
Student Council assembly on Novem-
ber l recognized 20 students who rep-
resent various activities that are a vital
part of the over all high school pro-
gram at ACHS. These students shared
with the audience why they enjoy par-
ticipating in extra curricular activi-
ties.
Guest speaker for the assembly was
Lawrence Lobpries who graduated
from ACHS in 1995. While in high
school, he was active in many student
activities. He pointed out that having
been active in various activities in
high school helped prepare him for
college life. He encouraged students
to participate in as many activities as
possible because once you get into
college (or involved in whatever you
choose after high school), those op-
portunities for involvement are gone.
He also stressed that he feels that he
was very7 fortunate to have had the
opportunities for involvement in many
different activities in high school. He
has discovered in talking with college
students from other schools, that it is
not always the case, especially in larger
high schools.
AC Band Boosters To
Sponsor "Bean Supper"
The Archer City Band Booster is
sponsoring a "Bean Supper" and all
the trimmings on Friday, November
8th, in the school cafeteria before the
Haskell game. The supper will be
served from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. It
is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for chil-
dren 12 and under.
Card of Thanks
Thanks to all my friends for the pretty
cards, beautiful flowers and visits from
all over and th food they brought. The
prayers that were sent up by so many,
I believe helped more than anything.
Many thanks!

The four day week of October 15-18,
the library had two hundred eighty
patrons use library facilities. Two
hundred ninety books and one hun-
dred ten videos were checked out.
Thirty-tw o patrons required reference
material and three patrons were doing
genealogy research. One Holliday
patron took an insurance lesl with
their county librarian acting as proxy.
In Bed & Breakfast. Lois Battle com-
bines a rare intuition about Southern
life w ith her own sharp-eyed w it to
write her most emotional novel to
date. Ten years of family secrets,
misunderstandings, and recriminations
have kept the Tattemalls apart - - until
Josie, a military widow suddenly
alerted to mortality when one of her
best friends keels over duri ng a bridge
game, impulsively invites her three
grown daughters home for the holi-
days at her gracious South Carolina
bed-and breakfast. This despite the
withering comment of her house-
keeper, Cuba, who says, "Children!
Might as well raise a Hock of black-
birds to peck out y'eyes!" Cam, Josie's
eldest, is her father's making peace
with either her family or herself. Ycars
ago, she acquired the cynical veneer
born of living too long in New York
City and watching her wnterly dreams
fade. Still reeling from a breakup with
the man she loves, she heads south
heartily skeptical of the comforts of
home and hearth. For Cam, this will
be a season of shocks and surprises.
Lila, the poised and perfect stay-at-
home mother of two, lives near Josie
in Hilton Head and is experiencing the
slow disintegration of her own essen-
tially loveless marriage. She dreads
the prospect of this family reunion - -
especially the return of her black sheep,
brilliant older sister, Cam. Yet, aston-
ishing even herself, this is the Christ-
mas when Lila finally will rebel. Evie,
the all-too-candid baby of the family,
routinely "shares" her family's secrets
in her advice column for a Savanna
new'spaper. But even Evie has never
created a scene like the tableaus she
stages at this Christmas dinner - when
she arrives on the arm of her latest
. love, a rich man old enough to be her
father... The heightened expectations
of the Christmas season celebrated in
great style and the upstairs/downstairs

"This you know, my beloved brethren. But let everyone be
quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger; for the anger
of man does not achieve the righteousness of God. Therefore
putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness,
in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save
your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not
merely hearers who delude themselves. For if anyone is a
hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks
at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at
himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what
kind of person he was. But one who looks intently at the
perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having
become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man shall
be blessed in what he does. If anyone thinks himself to be
religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his
own heart, this man’s religion is worthless. This is pure and
undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father, to visit
orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself
unstained by the world." (James 1:19-27)
