Fourteen Quanah points just before
half time and nine points late in the
fourth quarter were the difference in
Archer City's 29-6 loss in District 9-
2A play Friday night in Quanah.
The Wildcats clicked off 56 yards
in 4 plays on their second possession
of the night to take a 6-0 lead. Caleb
Perkins opened the drive with a 20
yard burst and closed the effort with
a 23 yard pass reception from Brice
Blake. Blake added the PAT kick to
put AC 7-0.
That margin stood until late in the
second quarter when the Indians knot-
ted the score on an 18 yard pass play.
Quanah got the ball back again only
to be intercepted by the Wildcats. But
the Indians stripped the ball loose on
the return went to the air again. This
time the Cats picked off an aerial in
the end zone...only to be called for
interference. With one minute before
halftime another Quanah pass from
AC's 14 was tipped and a diving
Indian receiver grabbed the pigskin
in the end zone. That sent the teams to
halftime with Archer City trailing
14-7.
The Wildcats had difficulty mov-
ing the ball in the second half. One

good drive ran out of downs inside the
Indians 30 yard line.
Quanah added 6 points in the third
period and then cashed in on an errant
punt snap in the final stanza. Perkins
fielded the snap deep in his own end
zone and stepped out of the field of
play rather than have the kick blocked
for a TD. After the 2-point safety and
ensuing Cat kick off from their own
20, the Indians punched in another
TD for the final 29-7 margin.
Brice Blake was 7 of 13 in the air in
the loss for 63 yards with Wes Bullard
making two grabs for 42 yards. In
addition to his 23 yard TD catch.
Perkins added 58 rushing yards on 9
carries and contributed 10 tackles and
a fumble recovery on defense. Zach
Roe led the Wildcats "D" with 14
stops. Jordan Daniel had 12 tackles
and caused 3 fumbles while Kellen
Green had 10 tackles.
Archer City will host Memphis, who
is 1-2 on the year after an open date
last week, Friday (tomorrow) night.
The 8th grade and junior varsity
will be in Memphis today with the J-
Cats getting under way at 4:30 p.m.
The 7th grade J-Cats are traveling to
Holliday today for a 5:30 p.m. game
with the young Eagles.
PEEWEE WILDCATS
The Archer City Peewee Wildcats
defeated the Burkbumett Peewee East
Bulldogs 28-8 in the Top of Jexas
football league competition on Satur-
day. Archer City remains undefeated
and improved its record to 4-0 with
the win.
The Peewee 'Cats offense was very
impressive behind a dominating of-
fensive line led by center, Cooper
Twyford. With brilliant running by
Hayden Bates (over 100 yards rush-
ing), Charlie Weakley and quarter-
back Mason Deerinwater, the Pee-
wee cats dominated the game offen-
sively.
Defensively, linemen Tyler
Hammond, Patrick Dayton, Zachary
Reynolds, Brady Enlow, and Bo Davis
thoroughly dominated the line stuff-
ing most rushing attempts while
thwarting the Bulldog's offensive
game plan. A key play occurred in the
third quarter when Tyler Hammond
and Bo Davis stopped the Bulldogs
on a fourth and inches to regain pos-
session when the Bulldogs were driv-
ing
and would have tied the score. From
that point on, the outcome was never
in doubt.
For the rest of the game, the wildcat
defense rose to every challenge with
consistent hardnosed tackles and pur-
suit from every position including th&
comerbacks led by Cole Sitz and
Landon Harvey, and the safeties led
by Ross Tucker. Great blocking, hard
hitting, and very few mistakes from
the 'Cats proved too much for the
Bulldogs in this one.
MIDGET WILDCATS
The Archer City Midget Wildcats
lost a heartbreaker to the Burkburnett
Midget East Bulldogs in Saturday's
Top of Texas division game.
Led by quarterback Sam McCord,
the Midget 'Cats had no trouble mov-
ing the football in the first half with
outstanding runs by Sam Smith and
John Bachman. Great 'Cat defensive
stands including two fumble recover-
ies by Blaine Willett and an intercep-
tion at the goal line followed by a fine
return by Bachman set up Archer
City's first score. A spectacular 22
yard halfback pass from Willett to
Smith and Smith's subsequent 8 yard
run and two point conversion gave
the 'Cats an 8-0 lead over the favored
Bulldogs at halftime.
With an aggressive running game
and a recovered on-side kick, the mo-
mentum shifted to the Bulldogs in the
third quarter with two quick scores by
their talented running backs. How-
ever, the 'Cats would not fold. A well
executed ground attack featuring Sam
Smith who gained 38 yards in seven
carries on the drive ended in Smith's
second touchdown and a tie game at
14-14. The Bulldogs regained the
lead after two long runs in the fourth
quarter, but the 'Cats made a valiant
effort in one last drive. That effort
saw the 'Cats march deep irtto Bull-
dog territory only to be stymied by a
very questionable ball spot that left
Archer City only inches short on a
fourth down conversion as time ex-
pired. Final score in this hard fought
battle was 22-14 in favor of
Burkbumett.
Kyle Long led a ferocious 'Cat de-
fense with great tackles and aggres-
sive play coming from Kolby Rowe,
Ben Hammond, Jacob Reid, Ben
Tucker, Wade Roberts and Wes Wolf.
This was truly a team effort and the
boys showed a lot of heart against the
toughest opponent of the year. The
loss brings the Midget 'Cats record to
an outstanding 3-1.
