GOB TAKES OATH
IN NORTH VIETNAM
A Pennsylvania sailor,
according to the Pentagon, has
achieved “a first of some sort.”
Yeoman 1/c Charles J.
Horvath, Jr., of Bethlehem,
Pa., who reenlisted in the navy,
took the oath in Haiphong,
North Vietnam.
Horvath was sworn in by
Rear-Adm. Brian McCauley,
commander of the navy
mine-clearing task force in the
Tonkin Gulf. McCauley cabled
that “it was a pleasure to
re-enlist him-even in
Haiphong.”
The sailor is serving with the
minesweeping force, which is
in North Vietnam holding
meetings with officials there.
The force was preparing to
clear underwater mines from
the harbors and rivers of North
Vietnam.
The waters were mined by
the U.S. last spring.
