kick-off and rambled to paydirt
for the only counter of the
game.
Red Riders 12, Tornados 6
Wes Brown took the opening
kickoff and returned it for the
opening score for the Riders.
The Tornados came whirling back

Judge Hears
Plea; Recesses
Second Trial
One trial was started and
then recessed and guilty plea
was heard in Winkler County
Court this week. The recessed
trial was that of Era Faye
Stephens Bell while Floyd Linn
Johnson entered the guilty plea.
County Judge W. E. Cook re-;
ported a jury was seated to
hear the Bell trial Friday morn
ing, but due to the week-end
tragedies it was recessed until
next week. Mrs. Bell is charged
when David Rivera picked off a
Rider pass and countered from
20 yards out.
Tonrados, Hurricanes Tie
Although the score was dead-
locked, Tornados took the de-
cision on first downs. Bruce
Madison started scoring when
he took a pitchout and crossed
the double stripe for the six-
pointer. Jerry Eaton passed to
Ritchie Thomas for the conver-
sion. Ronald Shaver took a fake
reverse and put the Tornados
on the scoreboard, and dupli-
cated the same play to tie the
game.
Hurricanes 12, Riders 0
Hurricanes blew the fifth grade
flag-ball league into a tie by
downing the Riders 12-0. Tony
Rea scored a 6-pointer on a re-
verse and Jerry Eaton iced the
game with a fake reverse.
FOURTH GRADE LEAGUE
BLUE BLAZES WIN
ON FIRST DOWNS
Blazers and Whizzers battled
to a scoreless deadlock but the
Blazes took the opener on first
downs. Bill Mitchell countered
for three of the Blazes’ first
downs.
Bugs Defeat Raiders
After exchanging the football
several times, Jeff Inglish Jr.
took a Raider punt and returned
it for a 6-pointer.
Raiders Down Blazes, 6-0
The Raiders evened things
with a 6-0 win over the Blazes.
Brad Green took a pitchout
from Ricky King and traveled
to the double stripe for the only
tally of the day.
Raiders, Whizers Tie
With the runs of Brad Green
and the passes of Dan Dampeer
the Raiders downed the Whiz-
zers on first downs in a score-
less game.
Whizzers Down Bugs
Whizers battled the favorites,
Gold Bugs, to another deadlock
and eked out a win on first
downs. Roland Lopez took the
ball from center on the last play
of the game and reeled off the
winning first down.
Bugs 28, Blazes 0
The Gold Bugs came back
storming over the Blazes 28-0
after their defeat by the Whiz-
zers. Jim Bob Franks opened
the TD parade with the first
kickoff and countered on a run
across the double stripe. His
second tally resulted on a pilfer-
ed pass, after which he added
two points.
Larry Logan contributed his
talents and running as a reverse
scampered into paydirt. Jeff
Inglish dived across the goal to
end scoring.
Gold Bugs Champs
The Gold Bugs and the Raid-
ers were tied at the start of this
game and called for a play-off
game. The Gold Bugs got busy
in the opening quarter and put
together a sustained drive to
the 2-yard line. There Jim Bob
Franks bucked it over for the
Fourth Grade Championship.
Larry Logan and Jeff Inglish
aided in the drive with several
nice runs. Larry Logan took a
pass from Jim Bob Fanks for
the 2-pointer.

Engine Failure!
These same 5 Comets traveled over 100,000 miles
each averaging over 105 miles per hour.
The cars, running day and night, were kept at
their tortuous, round-the-clock pace through
squalls, humid, semi-tropical heat and torrential
rainfalls that fringed hurricanes Flora and Ginny.
Ben D. Mills, general manager of Lincoln-Mercury
Division and Ford Motor Company vice-president*
told a national press conference at Daytona the
reasons for entering a team of 1964 Comets in a
precedent-setting 100,000-mile Durability Run.
Possibly the most important part has to do with
long-term involvement in the transportation in-
dustry. We are here proving that we can build a
safer, more durable automobile, one that can more
than cope with the demands of today’s traffic pat-
terns. In doing so, we are proving that we can
move ahead to build cars for traffic patterns that
will evolve in the years ahead.”
