The Presbyterian Hospital in
this city was the scene of the
courtship. There one day1 they
brongh Prof. NVint’ ”op l ure Dan-
iels. the great political economist
of Princeton University.
For weeks he , battled with
death, fighting for life as only a
brave, strong man can fight.
Through it all he Was cheered and
helped by the beautiful woman,
dressed in the simple gowyi of
blue and white linen, with a dain-
ty white ;cnp on her dark hair.
Her patience never failed, her
zeal never flagged. At last the
fight was won. “He will soon get
well now,” the doctor said as they
looked at him. ‘T owe it all to
her.” the Professor said feebly,
with a grateful, glance at hii
nurse. She smiled at his words
of praise. He was her patient—
th&t was all. Because she loved
her woA she had watched over
him with anxious care and min-
istered to his every want.
Once to the outside world she
had been known as MissJoan Rob-
ertson., one of the prettiest girls
in Monville. Conn. There had been
merry times—parties and fun and
sweethearts a plenty in those
days. But she had willingly given
them all np that she might com-
fort the sick and suffering—ex-
changed t^e soft music of the ball
room for a hospital ward, where
she listened to notes of anguish.
Now she was only known as
“Nnrse,” even to Prof. Daniels.
That she wai beautiful, even in'
her prim garb of hospital nurse,
was undeniable. She was tall,
slender, graceful, with great dark
eyes, full of pity and tenderness;
soft, waving brown hair and a
complexion as fair as a lily. But
it was not the beauty of her face
and form that Prof. Daniels saw.
In the hours when he stood upon
the dim borderland of the un-
known, when human sight grows
very clear, he had looked deeper
still.
AH, last week a certain rumor
floated about the college grounds,
and despite the fact that Prof.
Daniels kept his secret well he
daily bad to face a black board
which was decorated with shoes
and rice. He smiled when he saw
.these prophetic articles and some-
times in his lecture he forgot just
what he had intended to say, for
it took a good deal of courage to
dispense learning and stupendous
philosophy with reminders of that
kind on the black board and a row
of boys in front ready to wink on
the slightest provocation. %
Last Wednes^ 'v he went again
to Vontville. ami with him were
Prof. Wykoff. of the department
of sociology. Prof. A. F. Wist, the
Latin instructor, and Prof.
Thompson, the head of the math
ematieal deaprtment. That night
there was a pretty home wedding
at an old family homestead in
Connecticut. Miss Joan Robert

a hospital nurse and put on «
