The activities of the Aransas
Pass Nursing and Convalescent
Center got off to a very nice
start Monday morning when
Arthur our volunteer barber
from City Barber Shop of
Ingleside came over and fixed
our gentlemen residents up with
new haircuts. Thank you so
much, Arthur
Tuesday afternoon, the
volunteer group I have named
‘‘The Do Gooders”, which
includes Ann Hughes. Meredith
Moore, Shirley Yeamans,
Katherine Hatch, Monty Allen
and Catherine Higginbotham
came out for their game day.
Wednesday morning, Bonnie,
Pauline and her helpers were
out for the paint class
Wednesday evening, Gladys
Harris, one of our residents,
was honored with a big birthday
party, given by the J.M
Commander family. Refresh-
ments of ice cream and
homemade cookies were
served. Mary Frances
Fahrenthold played and sang
our residents’ favorite country-
western music. We had a good
many guests Some danced and
others just listened, but
everyone had a great time
Thanks to all who made this a
most memorable day for
Gladys.
Thursday morning, the
Pentecostal Church group was
here for its weekly program
Thursday afternoon, the
Aransas Pass Kebekahs were
out for their monthly game day.
The “Bible on Film" was
cancelled so our residents had a
free evening.
Saturday morning, Lois
Kinney, our beautician, was
back from vacation, so she had
a lot of ladies waiting to be
made more beautiful. Saturday
morning was Holy Communion
day for all our Catholic
residents. Father James
Hamilton came out to give
communion. Sunday morning
church services were held and a
nice crowd was in attendance
The Junior Girl Scout Troop
145, led by Gloria Haskett, gave
us seven Texas Gold Stamp
books for us to buy something
special for our Center Thank

Moves To New
Location
Great Western Finance has
moved its office from the
White's Auto Store to the
Naylor’s Furniture Store
building
Great Western has been in
operation in Aransas Pass for
the past three years at White s
Auto. Peter Roel is the manager
and is assisted by Mrs. Rene
Douglas.
Roel invites the public to drop
by and visit al the new office
and to register for a free
television which will be given
away September 18
Office hours are from 9 a.m.
to 5:30 p.m.

sweet gesture. We are going to
get a few more books together
and get a big battery operated
clock to put in the rotunda so all
will know what time it is.
We are all getting very
excited about the Shrine Circus
and are making last minute

Set in Rockport
September 4-5
A coordinated two-day series
of clinics designed to totally
inform area residents on the
most effective fall vegetable
gardening practices, has been
scheduled for Aransas County.
Featuring four Texas
Agricultural Extension Service
Specialists, they will be held
September 4-5 in Rockport
The clinic will be held in the
Fellowship Hall, First United
'Methodist Church, 2:30 to 4:30
p.m. each day.
The speakers are all highly
ex perienced in their areas of
expertise and have, for the most
part, been working in South
Texas several years They are:
Dr. Jose Amador, Plant
Pathologist, who will discuss
"Vegetable Diseases and Their
Control"; Jimmy Deer,
Entomologist. “Vegetable In-
sects, Identification and
Control”; Tom Longbrake,
Vegetable Specialist, “Planning
the Home Vegetable Garden”;
and Dr Dale Pennington,
Agronomist, “Soil Management
and Fertilization".
In addition, San Patricio and
Ariuisas County Extension
Agent, Marcia Brown will
discuss “Vegetable Preser-
vation From Garden to Freezer
or Pantry” at the meeting.
The events were planned and
organized by the San Patricio
and Aransas County Program
Building Committee in cooper-
ation with the Texas Agri-
cult urul Extension Service

Attends Camp
At Sam Houston
HUNTSVILLE— A record
1,100 junior and senior high
school band students attended
Sam Houston State University
band camps this summer,
including one student from
Aransas Pass
Melissa Burnham who plays
the alto saxophone attended the
camp from Aransas Pass.
The camps were divided into
three groups of one week
sessions each. These included
Junior High Camp I, Junior
High Camp II, and senior High
Camp.
Each week the camps were
subdivided into three or four
bands, depending upon how
many were in attendance. Each
day of the camp included class
lessons, band rehearsals, and
recreational activities.
Each week’s activities con-
cluded with a grand concert,
held each Saturday at 2 p.m in
'he Lowrnan Student Center at
Sam Houston. Approximately
1.000 relatives and friends of
camp members attended the
concerts.
Dr Ralph Mills, director of
■he Sam Houston Stale Univer-
sity Bands and director of the
camp, was pleased with the
a"endance and performance of
each group
"The Stale of Texas is
extremely fortunate to have an
exceptional band program in
most public schools," said
Mills, “and it is apparent to
those of us working with these
camps that this area's young
musicians are becoming more
talented each year.”

Receives Decree
From SWTSU
SAN MARCOS -Two Aransas
Pass area students were among
the close of 800 degree
candidates who received
diplomas from Southwest Texas
State University in summer
commencement ceremonies
Saturday, Aug lfl.
The commencement address
was delivered by Lt. Governor
Bill Hobby, a native Houstonian
who is serving his second term
as lieutenant governor.
The summer commencement
program was conducted at
Evans Field
The local students included
Mary Jane de la Rosa, daughter
of Mr and Mrs Frank G. de la
Rose, Jr. of Aransas Pass, and
Wallace Christopher Andrews,
Jr., son of Mr and Mrs W.C.
Andrews of Gregory.
Miss de la Rosa received a
Bachelor of Science in Educa-
tion with a double major of
Elementary Education and
Biology-Social Studies.
Andrews completed require-
ments for a Bachelor of Science
degree with a biology major.

degrees conferred by Texas
A&I University at Corpus
Christi topped 600 Friday when
179 students received diplomas
in ceremonies at Del Mar
Auditorium,

Directors Dr. D. Whitney
Halladay, president of the
University, gave the
commencement address
Registration for the fall
semester at A&I-CC will be held
August 27 and 28th. Beginning
Monday, August 18, the Admis-
sions Office will be open until 7
p.m. each Monday through
Thursday to assist entering
A&I-CC students.
Degrees were conferred upon
449 during exercises concluding
the 50th annual session of Texas
A&I University at Kingsville
Friday. Dr Gerald B. Robbins.
A&l president, presented
diplomas to 313 bachelor's and
136 master's degree candidates.
Among those receiving
