2932 will hold its annual Buddy
Poppy sale this weekend
Members of the V.F.W. will
be selling the Buddy Poppies
throughout the city Saturday
and Sunday.
V .F W Buddy Poppies are
assembled by disabled veterans
and the proceeds of this
fund-raising campaign are used
exclusively for the benefit of
disabled and needy veterans,
and the widows and orphans of
deceased veterans
The basic purpose of the
annual sale of Buddy Poppies
by the Veterans of Foreign
Wars is reflected in the desire to
"Honor the Dead by Helping the
Living "

TEN YEARS AQO
EARLY MORNING STORM SOAKS CITY WITH 5.50 INCHES OF
MOISTURE
Thunderstorms, accompanied by a heavy display of
lightning, soaked Aransas Pass with 5.50 inches of rain early
today and brought the total rainfall here since Sunday to nearly
eight inches Weatherman R.L. Herndon said the heavy rain
started about 1:20 a m. today and by 2:35 a m. had dumped 3.50
inches of moisture on the area. About 7:30 a m. with light rain
falling about 5.50 inches had been noted. Aransas Pass received
1 65 inches Monday and 60 of an inch Tuesday.
JOHN SCHNEIDER BECOMES EAGLE SCOUT
John Schneider of Aransas Pass Boy Scout Troop 25 became
an Eagle Scout Saturday night. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Schneider of Farm Road 1069. Schneider is Scoutmaster of Troop
25. The Eagle award ceremony took place at Little Bob’s Rattan
Room following a Ladies Night supper sponsored by the Lions
Club, sponsoring institution for Troop 25. Damon Smith was
master of ceremonies and presented the new Scout charter to
Lion President John W. Bright well
PARADE TO KICKOFF AP FIREMEN S RODEO
A parade through downtown Aransas Pass beginning at 4
p.m. Friday will kick off the fifth annual Volunteer Firemen’s
Rodeo to be held Friday and Saturday at the Dimaline Area on
Avenue A The parade, which will consist of Aransas Pass and
area horsemen will begin at the First Baptist Church and will
travel along Commercial Street turning up Wheeler to Newbury
Park. A performance will be held at 8 p.m. on each of the rodeo
days.
DRAFTING OF UNITED FUND BYLAWS BEGUN
At a meeting Thursday afternoon, directors of the United
Fund of Aransas Pass began the preparation of by-laws which will
guide the operation of the charitable organization After a review
by the directors of typical by-laws which have proved satisfactory
with other such organizations, Virgil Doggette, president,
appointed a five member committee headed by Tom Andrews to
draft proposed by-laws for the Aransas Pass United Fund and
submit them for approval at a meeting June 3. Plans for
incorporating the local organization were also discussed and
application for a non-profit charter will be filed in the near future.
RECEIVES AIR FORCE HONOR
Col Billy S. McCarty, deputy commander for maintenance
22nd Bomb Wing, March AFB, Calif, presented March AFB
Maintenance Man of the Month award for April to A2C Saleem
Tawil. son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gerhard of Ingleside. A
graduate of Ingleside High School, he was lauded for his
‘‘outstanding skills in maintaining the complex electronics
equipment of the EC135C aircraft”. He is a repair technician on
the post attack command control system.
CITY BUDGET AWARDS
Members of the administration group of the city’s Water and
Sewer Department who received special recognition from Mayor
William L. Ellis in controlling and reducing expenses during the
1964-65 fiscal year are Rufino Martinez, Elmer Campbell, Mrs
Ruth Rolls, Mrs Carolyn Griffis and C.H. Cavitt Based upon the
annual audit, this group had operated approximately $8,300 under
its budget allotment for the past fiscal year. In a statement to the
city manager, the auditors commended all departments of the
city for the efficiency of the operations for the year

Aransas Pass High School's
Jerry Moore placed third in the
3A division long jump at the
stale meet held in Austin
recently.
Moore had his best jump of
the year at the state meet when
on his last jump he went 23 feet.

individual best, but it also was
the best jump in South Texas
this year in all divisions
Moore concluded a successful
year in which he gathered some
14 medals. In addition to being a
top long jumper, he is also a
sprinter and runs a leg on both
the sprint and mile relays.
Moore is a junior and hopes to
eventually jump 24 feet and
perhaps gain a scholarship to a
southwest conference school.
He plans to continue jumping in
the A A.U. sponsored summer

GTE Receives
Complaints Of
Threatening Calls
Several complaints have been
received by General Telephone
Company about annoying and
threatening phone calls in
Aransas Pass, according to B.C.
Vick, division manager in
Kohstown.
”We have received several
customer complaints recently
in the Aransas Pass area
concerning this problem Our
company pledges assistance (o
the local police department in
locating the individuals respnn
siblc for making these calls in
order (hat the recipients may
prosecute to the full limit of the
law.” Vick said
Vick also slated that "Section
42 07 of the Penal Code of the
Slate of Texas makes it
unlawful for any person to ill
use vulgar, profane, obscene or
indecent language in a commu-
nication by telephone. <2> bv
telephone, Wfhreiijln to lake
unlawful aclion against anyone,
or (31 to place telephone calls
anonymously at unreasonable
hours in an offensive or
repetitious manner, if in doing
any of these acts the person
intentionally, knowingly, or
recklessly annoys or alarms, or
intends to annoy or alarm, the
recipient. Violation of this law is
punishable by a fine up to $1.000
or confinement up to 180 days in
jail, or both.”
Aransas Pass Chief of Police
Kudy Kamirez said there has
been one case of a threatening
phone call reported to the police
this month and that complaints
to the phone company may have
been due to several bomb
threats received by lofal
business last month.
