The Board of Commissioners of the City of Abilene, Texas met in regular
session Friday September 11, 1931 at 3:00 P. M. with Mayor York present and
presiding. Commissioners present, Sammons, Johnson, Womack and Morrison.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
OLL & VQUCHERJpy motion of Commissioner Womack, duly seconded and carried, the payrolls

3050 B, inclusive, were allowed and ordered paid. All Commissioners voted "Aye”.
VERNMENT OBSER- Commissioner Womack made a motion, duly seconded and carried, that the
ION POST City enter into an agreement with the Federal Government to install the
AIRPORT Government Observation Post at the Municipal Airport. All Commissioners voted
"Aye".

Commissioner Johnson made a motion, duly seconded and carried, to award
the Contract for rebuilding the City Jail to Mr. Henry Snodgrass for $575.00,
complete with fence and plumbing and to be built according to the specifications
of the City Engineer. All Commissioners voted "Aye”.
ATION AUTH. Commissioner Johnson made a motion, duly seconded and carried, that Mr.
.SANDERS J. T. Sanders be allowed a ten days vacation beginning September 16, 1931.
All Commissioners voted "Aye”.

The Following Resolution was read before the Board:
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT WITH THE FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT TO LEASE THE PRESENT FEDERAL BUILDING SUBJECT TO THE IMMEDIATE
POSSESSION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
WHEREAS, a new Federal Building is contemplated for Abilene and it seems
feasible and to the best interests of the said City that the present Federal
Building be not torn down but left in tact; and
WHEREAS, it appears that said building can be used to an advantage to
the City and its inhabitants: Therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED By the Board of Commissioners of the City of Abilene that
we endorse the plan of the Federal Government to erect in Abilene a new Post
Office and Federal Building, The need of enlargement and additional quarters
for both the Post Office, Federal Court, and other governmental agencies
stationed here, has been apparent for many years. We pledge our co-operation a
and help to the Post Office and Treasury Departments in the new building plans
and program.
BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER that we respectfully request the retention of the
present building to take care of probable expansions within the next few years.
We offer to lease same, subject to immediate possession by the Federal Govern-
ment at any time. To that end, the Mayor is authorized to negotiate and sign
a contract mutually agreeable and acceptable to The City of Abilene and to the
Federal Government.
Passed and approved this the 11th day of September 193 1.

ordinance was passed on first reading. All Commissioners voted "Aye".
