Theatre Feb. 8-11.
The student-directed play A Day
in the Death of Joe Egg is a comedy
set in Great Britain In 1967.

"The couple uses comedy to
help them deal with their diffi-
cult everyday life because of their
daughter" Barth said. "The play
is also about the couple dealing
with dysfunction and keeping
their marriage together."
Darth said she wanted to direct
the play which took four weeks
of rehearsals to complete be-
cause she has been interested in
directing ever since she took her
first directing class.
"I enjoyed my directing class.

was something I wanted to do
when I leave" she said.

Joke started by Grace. The term Is
often used by family members to
describe themselves and daugh-
ter Joe in unfortunate situations
but in a comical way.
Tickets can be purchased for $5
at the theatre box office located
at East North 19th and Avenue D
Streets.

Rathbun said the exhibit was very beneficial
for students to sec their teachers current
work and hear them talk about what inspires
them and how they deal with making some-
thing concrete out of an idea or an emotion.
She said each faculty member provided
good Insight into how his or her creative
process works.

Rathbun said the exhibit is part of the "tra-
ditional biannual faculty joint exhibit that
has been In effect since the 70s."
She said every two years the art faculty pulls
together in a group exhibition to show off its
current work. The exhibit opened Jan. 20 and
will be on display in the Shore Art Gallery
until Feb. 21. The gallery is open to public
Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pianist Philip Autry to give
recital of composer's music
Pianist Dr. Philip Autry interim piano teacher at
Angelo State University in San Angelo will pre-
sent a recital Sunday at 2 p.m. in Roxie Neal Recital
Hall in the Buford Music Building.
Autry recital will be music from Hungarian
composer Franz Liszt titled Annees it Pclerlrwge
(Years of Pilgrimage). The nine-movement set is
Liszts musical reflection on sound and places In
Switzerland.
The recital Is free and open to the public.
According to a press release Autry has written
several articles on music that have appeared in
Piano Guild Notes Alfred Piano Rendezvous and
Proceedings and Reference of the 1994 National
Conference on Piano Pedagogy.
He received the Gail Boyd de Stwolinskl Award
from the University of Oklahoma School of Music
and was named the Outstanding Graduate Assis-
tant at UO in May of 1996.
Autry's dissertation The Published Solo Piano
Music of Howard Hanson: An Analysis for Teaching
and Performing offers suggestions for teaching
piano music by composer Howard Hanson.
A native of Milan Tenn. Auuy has earned degrees
from David Lipscomb University and Middle
Tennessee State University. From 1989 to 1993 he
was an instructor at B.C. Goodpasture Christian
School and Middle Tennessee State University.
