who approved purchase of the land and
made several trips with the Mayor in
the interest of the project. E. P. Arne-

Colglaiser, supervisor of projects and
planning, also rendered valuable as-
sistance and advice.
' The Cuero Park occupies a. 210*
acre rectangular plot, acquired from
the Lackey brothers and the T. & N. O.
Railway Company just at the eastern
edge of the city. In fact the western
portion of the park lies within the city
limits. The northern boundary ex-
tends along the Victoria highway for a
distance of slightly more than one mile.
The western boundary is Lackey Street,
a short thoroughfare, only two blocks
in length, extending from the railway
to Court House Street
be a beautiful nine hols golf course with
rolling grass greens to which water will
be piped. There will be three short
holes, numbers 1, 4 and, 9, and four long
ones, numbefs 2, 3, 6 and 7, with num-
ber 6, a dog-leg, being extremely long
and difficult.
Near the eastern edge df the prop-
erty and reached by a gravel drive, will
be located traps for gun club shcfoting,
marked by the letter^ “GC.”
Near the western edge of the prop-
erty, 150 yards from the Main Street
entrance will be an enclosed and light-
ed athletic field (Marked “B”) suitable
for both baseball and fqotball. The
field will be approximately 350 feet
square and permanent stands to seat
at least 1,000 spectators are to be erect-
ed on the site.
Between the athletic field and the
club house and located in the post oak
groves fronting the highway, will be
some eight or ten picnic units, with
barbecue pits, tables and benches for
picnics and outings.
A bridle path (marked ‘^BP" on
the map) will follow the property line
on three sides, cutting in at the east-
ern end to skirt the golf course.
The Cuero State Park will be open
to the people of Cuero and South Texas
for their use and enjoyment at all
times. While the actual plan for op-
eration has not been definitely decided
upon it is expected that extension of
privileges will be on a double basis.

The southern
boundary follows the railroad right-of-
way a distance of a mile and a quarter
to the property of Mrs. Edward Mugge.
The fence line of this property marks
the eastern end of the park between the
railway and the Victoria highway.
The above map, drawn by Thep.
Ahlborn, WPA engineer in charge of
construction, pictures the entire plot
and marks the locations and relative
size of the various recreational units. .
There will be two entrances to the
park, one at the east end of Main St.,
and the other just east of the junction
of the old and new Victoria highways'.
