Description: Unidentified men stand in front of a Denton City/County Public Library bookmobile. Denton Public School buses are in the background. The picture was taken across from Congress Junior High School facing Alice Street. In 1938 the schools purchased a bookmobile to provide better library services to schools in the County. The Works Progress Administration funded the staff and maintenance of the bookmobile program.

Lee Preston

He went to school in Denton, attended North Texas Normal College and studied in the Army Training Corps. By 1920, he was a teacher, then later became a banker. Lee eventually ran for office and was mayor of Denton from 1938-45.

Smith-Carroll Hall built by the Woman's Home Mission Socity of the North Texas Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church

Description: Smith-Carroll Hall of Texas Woman's University is visible behind a rock ledge, flowers, and trees. Ivy covers one side of the building. The building was opened in April of 1908 and was also known as Methodist Dormitory. The building was torn down in 1950 and another dormitory was erected with the same name.

Description: This Hamilton's Drug Store menu includes sodas, fruit juices, soups, sandwiches, and salads. The menu also includes some information about the drug store. Hamilton's Drug Store grand opening was on a Tuesday morning, June 15, 1941. It was located on the corner of Fry and Hickory Street. The owners were W. P. Hamilton and E. C. Perryman. [Spectacular Fire on East Hickory, 1942]

Description: Photograph of firemen battling a two-alarm fire at the 200 block of East Hickory Street. Several water hoses are being used and strewn across the ground. Fire Chief Eugene Cook and his men can be seen fighting the flames while several onlookers are in the street. The origin of the flame was undetermined.
