Map to Illustrate War with Mexico
This sheet contains two principal maps and a series of ancillary maps. The left half of the page contains a "Map to Illustrate War With Mexico" which uses colors to shade the areas delineating Mexico, the United States, and the territory acquired from Mexico by the United States. U.S. states are also outlined and labeled. Major cities, bodies of water, and geographic features are marked (with relief shown by hachures). There are two insets in the lower left corner titles "Vicinity of Matamoras" and "Route of Gen. Scott between Vera Cruz and Mexico." The right half of the page contains a "Map to Illustrate the War of 1812-1814" (top portion) as well as "Wars Against Indians 1790 and 1811" (centered within the bottom portion). There are also five ancillary maps around central map titled "Vicinity of Detroit," "Niagara River and Vicinity," "Vicinity of Plattsburg," "Southern Region of the War 1812-14." and "Vicinity of Baltimore" which seem to pertain to the top map of the War of 1812.
