[Early "California Limited" entering Los Angeles]

Description: One of the early "California Limiteds" entering the suburbs of Los Angeles, possibly dating from the late 1870's. The ten-wheeler, type 4-6-0, heading the train bears an original Santa Fe engine No. 54, indicative of ancient age. At the turn of the century the Santa Fe owned a large fleet of these locomotives: 478 ten-wheelers; these were versatile engines, known as "Jack of all Trades." [Palestine Railroad Mansion]

Description: Photo of what is commonly called a "Railroad Mansion". One of the large homes built by the magnates of the I&GN Railroad. It is not known where this house was located, but it was most likely south of the railroad tracks along S. Sycamore or S. Magnolia streets in Palestine.

[Dr. Alexander Archer Beville's Diary, 1870]

Description: Diary belonging to Dr. Alexander Archer Beville for the year 1870. It has a black leather cover, and the opening flap is embossed with the words "Diary 1870" in gold. A sewing needle has been sewn to the inside of the diary. The first few pages have already been filled in with a calendar, interest table, stamp duties, a table for time differences, the phases of the moon, and a list of important battles. Beville used the diary to record expenses, special events, and dental appointments.
