Two Federals on the left hand side of the photo are standing next to some artillery pieces. The soldiers' presence has drawn a crowd of local men and young boys. The Federals appear to be dressed in a khaki dyed cotton uniform.

[Military Train]

Photograph of a Mexican Military Train. Written on the side of the train is "Ejercito Mexicano Tren Militar," which translates to "Mexican Military Army Train." This train has stopped at the Juarez train depot in Ciudad Juarez. The train car is protected by a wall of thick steal on all sides. There are 23 rifle holes along this side of the car and a turret like housing unit in the center of the car. [Mobile Cannon]

Photograph of a cannon on a train car. This train car was specially modified to be able to carry and support this cannon. Because the railroad tracks were so easy to sabotage or to ambush, many of the railroad cars had to be outfitted with makeshift self defense mechanisms such as this cannon. Both the federals and revolutionaries destroyed many railroad lines in order to cut off supplies to the other side.

Wounded Insurrecto

Photograph of a wounded revolutionary soldier. A wounded revolutionary soldier has been taken off a train car and is being transported to an unknown location. It has been conservatively estimated that as many as 1 million people, including civilians, were killed during the Mexican Revolution. Source - Encyclopedia Americana (2003). Other sources have put the total death toll at more than 2 million.

[Mechanized Vehicle]

Photograph of a U.S. Army mechanized vehicle. An early version of an unidentified armored plated vehicle moves along a street heading north - the Franklin Mountain are in the background. Many armored vehicles made their debut during the Mexican Revolution. Perhaps the Chihuahuan desert was used as a testing ground since many of these same vehicles were later used in mass quantities during WWI.

[Mexican Revolutionaries]

Photograph of three unidentified Mexican Revolutionaries. These men are standing on part of a railroad section. During the Mexican Revolution multiple miles of railroad tracks were dynamited and destroyed by both sides in order to prevent supplies and men from reaching their intended destinations.

[Field Artillery]

Photograph of field artillery cannons. These artillery pieces were brought in to protect the town of Columbus, New Mexico after the raids by Mexican rebels. These small but effective cannons were ideal for combat in the desert because of their mobility. In the background a "mule train" carries additional supplies. Beyond the pack animals and on top of the mesa, U.S. Soldiers can be seen using signal flags to contact a distant signaling post.

[Derailed N de M Locomotive]

Photograph of a derailed N de M locomotive train. The engine number is 862. Insurrectos have surrounded what is left of this train and appear to be salvaging whatever supplies that they can find useful. The N de M is officially known as Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México. The N de M absorbed the Mexican Central Railroad in 1909.
