Ripley uses eminent domain to take the railroad from Texas to states on the Pacific coast. Campbell states he will intervene if necessary and will not allow this to happen. Description: Letter from Henry Sayles to F. W. Hughes asking him to pay his part of taxes, despite his indefinite absence from the ranch. Sayles expresses his worry about the railroad situation as he does not believe John Bryan will push for Abilene to be a point on the Cross Plains extension. Instead, he wishes for the Katy railroad itself to name Abilene as a point on the route.
