He returned to Nacogdoches later in life to work as a minister. Mr. Sweat discussed growing up in segregated Nacogdoches, the integration of the schools, the brutality of Chief Roebuck, protests in the late 1960s and 1970, representation of African-Americans in politics and voter apathy.
