[Denton City/County Library Bookmobile]

Description: Unidentified men stand in front of a Denton City/County Public Library bookmobile. Denton Public School buses are in the background. The picture was taken across from Congress Junior High School facing Alice Street. In 1938 the schools purchased a bookmobile to provide better library services to schools in the County. The Works Progress Administration funded the staff and maintenance of the bookmobile program.

Lee Williams was the daughter of C. A. "Alex" Charles Alexander Williams and Mary Elizabeth Pritchett. She was born in 1866 and died in 1941.

[Members of the Fidelis Sunday School at Howard Payne College]

Description: Unidentified group of two men and fourteen women pose for a picture on the steps of Howard Payne College. A small banner held by two of the women reads "Fidelis 1935-36." The Fidelis Sunday School Class was held at the First Baptist Church of Howard Payne College (now University). Only students attending the university were allowed to enroll in the specialized training in "real workings" of a modern day church.

Unidentified Men on the Step of Denton City Hall Who Have Been Called Up to be Drafted in World War II

Description: A large group of unidentified men on the steps of the Denton City Hall, located at 221 N. Elm. This building is now known as City Hall West. Carl Hill is identified as the man fourth from the left on the back row. The man seventh from the left on the front row is identified as Richard O. Harbert.

Sam Laney Tire Company and Service Station

Description: The Sam Laney's Tire Company and Service Station located at 502 N. Locust. The station originally opened in 1931 as the Laney & Craven Road Service Station and offered "washing, polishing and greasing," as well as being a Texaco Service Station. The name changed to Sam Laney sometime between 1932 and 1933. They began offering Firestone products in 1933. It later became the John Rochelle Station around 1942 and 1944.

Smith-Carroll Hall built by the Woman's Home Mission Socity of the North Texas Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church

Description: Smith-Carroll Hall of Texas Woman's University is visible behind a rock ledge, flowers, and trees. Ivy covers one side of the building. The building was opened in April of 1908 and was also known as Methodist Dormitory. The building was torn down in 1950 and another dormitory was erected with the same name.

Household Arts Building (1913)

Description: Several women near the steps of the Household Arts Building at Texas State College for Women. The three-story brick building has six columns with Ionian capitals. The Household Arts Building was the second largest instructional building erected on the campus of Texas Woman's University. The Legislature appropriated $75,000 for it, and the building was occupied with the opening of the 1913-14 school year. Brackenridge Hall was completed in 1916 but has since been replaced by the Brackenridge Student Union. The pictured Stoddard Hall is the second one built which was completed in 1936.
